Herb Fleming died. He worked for ABC Wide World of Sports. Anyone remember that show?

Anyway, watching the head of ESPN comment on his legacy was amusing to say the least. I am sure Fleming was proud of what ESPN had become.

I'll add that Baseball Tonight is now borderline unwatchable. I miss the old days of Harold Reynolds, Peter Gammons, Dave Campbell, hell even Buck Showalter and Martinez. Steve Phillips (complete clown) and John Kruk are both atrocious, as are Eric Young, Orestes Destrade (comical), and almost anyone else they trot out apart from Olney and Kurkjian.

--It's been 7-8 years now since it was good.
--ESPN the magazine can be OK (if they aren't doing an X-games preview or something really dumb). Good bathroom reading, and I can read every page except for one. I always skip the Stuart Scott column.
--Steven A Smith makes me turn the channel every time he comes on.
--I like PTI. Both hosts crack me up.
--Rome is burning sucks. Around the Horn sux. Mariotti should be put out to pasture.

Havn't read the thread yet, so this may have been said but....

It became "unwatchable" when they introduced ESPNews. Thats because they're giving you guys what you want on ESPNews while catering ESPN to the more casual fan who is more likely to stop the channel when he sees celebrities and silly contests like Who's Now.

Its the same thing with MTV no longer playing music once they added other channels, and I don't see why you guys complain so much about it. In today's age, there are tons of sports entertainment options out there both online, in newspapers, and on tv. Watch something else if you don't like it.

I think MTV2 was the result of MTV no longer playing music videos and not the cause. As I recall it was Real World, Road Rules, and whatever the else that wasn't music videos. They maybe had a couple shows on late at night (can't remember the name but that one rock show). Because of this they basically created a hole in the market - a channel for music videos - and thus MTV2 filled that void.

I think ESPNews is similar but it may have contributed a bit to the lowering of the SC bar.
