So theres a hilarious thread on the padres message board making fun of their offense.

Starts out saying that LaRussa is going to start So Taguchi in game 3 to save his pitchers arms. This is followed up by another report that Tony has changed his mind and is going to start "pitching machine" and if "machine's" pitch count gets too high, he will use "batting tee" for long relief.

I guess this is what u get when Dream-Weaver shuts you down. Now we need Jeff ChunkySouppon to bring home the victory at busch.

that cartoon is funny

the current team has no Ponson, no Luna, no Mulder, no Izzy
amazing to see the turnover

side point: I blasted the Belliard pick-up as I thought he wasn't much better than Luna. Belliard's defense the past few days has proved me wrong.

i think belliard's defense has been fantastic since the day he signed on. hasn't he been the majority of our defensive highlight reel since edmonds went south, with rolen's gems in-between? i can understand if they take miles next year for second base because of cost efficiency, but i'd be very happy to see belliard stay. maybe his market price is lower with a worse batting average this year.

which specific statistics cause you to disagree? rate? it's not immediately clear to me. he's got 3 errors and a .988 fpct since he's been here, and stats aren't going to account for the extra outs he's pulling by staying so far off the base. my opinion is just drawn from watching most of his regular season games. the guy is capable of some wicked plays and he doesn't eff up the routine ones, i think he's a clear defensive improvement for us on second base.

I agree. Saying that Beliard isnt a defensive improvement over miles/luna is laughable. It was so sad to watch eck and miles play together. A couple of 5 footers leaving gaping holes. I've been saying since the beginning of the year that miles oughta be playing at AAA somewhere.

well, crock didn't really say that he wasn't an improvement over luna/miles, the context he was replying to was the bit where i said i've loved his defense since the day he got here (as contrasted with turn2raise saying he's changed his mind on him in just the last few games). in addition to the fact that he doesn't ever seem to screw up i'm just reminded of a lot of belliard's amazing plays in the regular season: that running/bending catch where he spun and arced the ball to first while still running the opposite direction, fake throws to the bases before throwing the guy out at home, etc. highlight stuff that any second baseman would love to pull off, and it doesn't really get logged statistically.
