Re: Official NBA Season Thread
[ QUOTE ]
When they traded for Rasheed Wallace, the Pistons were 34-23, 7 games behind the Pacers who were completely steamrolling the Eastern conference. They finished the season 20-5 with a point differential of 17.2. [/ QUOTE ] If this is true wow, and good argument by the way. +17.2 is unheard of. How then did the pundits not see this coming? The Nets did stretch them to seven games though and then there of course is that epic ECF with the Pacers where every final score was like 58-56. Have to agree with kidcolin, I think you just had your years wrong. What's funny is, despite one of the most dominant regular seasons in NBA history in 2000, the Lakers wouldn't have seen the finals were it not for the epic fail by the Blazers in the final quarter of game seven. Couple that with the Big Shot Bob madness two years later against Sacto and the Fisher shot two years after that against the Spurs and you realize just how lucky they were. Lucky, yes. None of that stuff ever happened TO them during the Kobe-Shaq era. |

I had a feeling he'd come with the post-trade data, which I couldn't readily find. That is damn impressive. Not sure half a great season makes for a best team of the decade vote, though. It does mean 'Sheed is the mafukkin man, though.

I guess he's giving the '01 Lakers the nod cuz of their insane playoff run. I should have realized that.

Good point though, I guess the 99-00 Lakers were probably better than the 03-04 Pistons, even though they underachieved in the WCF vs. the Blazers. It just tilts me how everyone uses those Finals as evidence of what a horrible teammate Kobe Bryant is. The 03-04 Lakers were very good and just lost to an even better team. By the way, at the time I had no idea why the Lakers were considered such locks. I went to Game 6 of the ECF with my friend (who is a huge Pistons fan) and after the game I said congratulations, you're going to win the title. |

ZOMG WEST PWNS THE EAST! plus no one really realized how much better sheed really made that team until the train had already run them over. |

Re: Official NBA Season Thread
Billy,
Well brah that just makes you a lot smarter than most of us. But the thing is, the Lakers were WAY sexier on paper. Three titles in four years, huge marquee top 50 in NBA history names, Phil Jackson. I think it's just hard for the average NBA viewing bear to disassociate from all of that hotness, and the only thing proven on the Pistons roster was that Rasheed Wallace could be a huge PITA. But it's also reasonable to not see how Wallace could help transform that team, or to believe that it was sustainable. In other words, this was a perfect situation for a discernable sports bettor to mop up. |

That frontcourt defense was pretty insane, and defense is often overlooked by the fans, too.
