From what I've seen in the movies the standard for breaking an engagement is to either give the ring back or throw it in the sewer, so I wouldn't be pissed at bones for hearing hoof beats and thinking it was a horse. If it's a zebra, just say "nah, it's a zebra."

Personally, I think the proper engagement gift to a young woman is an embryo, not a ring.
