It's really to keep the crowd in the game.

Yeah, I realize that. It's just sad. I mean, it makes sense in PHX cuz you got a bunch of old people staying up way past their bed time. But Toronto has awesome fans. They deserve better.

In case it wasn't obvious, no such music is played at the Garden.

kc,

i could be wrong, but i always thought some arenas play music when their team is on offense to "keep them in rhythm" while playing some off-beat stuff when the opposing team is on O

I was always under the impression that the arena couldn't play music or other sound effects when the ball was in play and the home team was on D. I don't think I read that anywhere, though, so I'm not sure why I thought that. Observation, I guess.

I think just about every arena does the "D-FENSE" thing as the other team is bringing up the ball.

Hmm, that's true. I wonder if there's a rule about crossing halfcourt or something. Or perhaps I am making things up.

tuq,

Yeah, those rankings are pretty retarded. If Pierce's shot had gone in, the Celtics would be ranked #1, but since it didn't, he drops them to 5th because they lost a close game on the road to a very good team?

Pretty dumb.

nah, Stein wouldn't have put them #1.. he's got a HUGE mancrush on PHX.

I think the biggest atrocity in his rankings is putting the Bulls ahead of the Grizzlies. Sure, they lost 3 straight, but they've had a rough schedule. They pulled out a big win over HOU. Loss to the Bucks sucks, but only lost by 3 (missed a buzzer beater to tie). Then lose to two really good teams, both by 3, one in OT. Meanwhile, the Bulls are getting the doors blown off of them. Give me a break. Go fetch Ari Gold a latte you hack.

Anyone know when basketball-reference starts updating for the current season? I feel lost at work without it. I'm reduced to looking for weird stat lines, like Tony Delk's 53 point game.

FWIW the suns shouldnt be #1 yet, they are yet to play well and only have one quality victory @ Orlando. All these power rankings are pointless anyway, they basically just base everything by record and pick their favorite team of the bunch. My projective thoughts are it's suns/spurs/mavs then a gap then celts then a gap then everyone else. The wildcard here is the rockets where I'm not sure where to put, but my first instinct is to put them slightly better than the celts. I don't know how the Jazz/Nuggs would fare against the Celts but I don't think it matters.

i want to set an over/under for how many weeks into the season before people start realizing that the lakers are better than denver and utah. it could also be the time i look like a complete ass and have to stuff my foot in my mouth but i don't think so.
