Hey dudes, glad to join the no-cal scene after slumming it down in Hawaain Gardens outside of LBC.

I'm currently building a bankroll with 3/6 but want to get to 6/12-8/16 ASAP but I won't ahve to worry about finding higher games for a while.

Just played at Casino San Pablo and it was the best conditions I've ever seen, simply amazing. But I keep hearing that LC and Bay101 might be even better. Is it worth the trip if I'm living in Berkeley?

Also, is Oak's worth going to or should I just stick to the newer CSP? At least it has parking and oak's looks like a shithole.

East Bay poker sucks; Bay 101, AJ's and too an extent LC are where it's at, especially once you progress to the midlimits. Shoot me a PM and I'll fill you in more.

anyone have a recommendation for where to go during the daytime for a good 3/6 game?

I haven't been to a casino here yet, but I've got a spare day off of work every week and I'd like to start building a casino bankroll.

Additionally, I'm stuck with public transportation and it needs to be near a BART or CalTrain stop.

Right now I'm guessing Lucky Chances is my best bet, since that's the only one that has a shuttle from BART. Any others worth checking out?

I think AJ's is close to a Caltrain stop (San Bruno), but I have always driven there.

From the MacArthur BART take the Emery-go-round (free) hollis shuttle and request a stop when you see San Pablo and 40th. This will put you on the same block as the Oaks cardroom or across the street. Not that I'm recommending or disuading you from going, but that's how you get there.

So there's a lucky chances shuttle to/from BART? Is this public transportation or a free/cost shuttle they provide?

Free shuttle every 30 mins. You could also walk it, its about 15-20 mins on foot.

I wouldn't walk it. Colma gives me the creeps. Could be all the dead people.

If you have worst case scenario and you see the LC shuttle pulling away just as you come off of the train, you could just take a taxi. It's a 5 minute ride and costs maybe $7.

The OP mentioned the possibility of hooking up for home games as well. Gotta love the rake!

I'm out in Tracy and we have plenty of home games going on all the time. SNGs, larger tourneys, very low blind NL games, etc.

I'm always looking for a new game that goes off somewhat regularly. If you're near Tracy, I can include you in e-mails about stuff going on out here. If you need a player, I'm in.

There should be a forum where players can hookup here. I bet there are juicy games all over that no one knows about.

okay, I've heard less than stellar things about Oaks, so I guess I've got at least LC and AJ's to try.. (or if oaks is really that awesome, I can spring for the cab I suppose even if the neighborhood is pretty scuzzy around there)

what's the rake like at either of these places at the 3/6 game (or lower if they have it, no need to lose too much my first time if I find out I suck at the casino poker) and what's my chances of finding a good game around 1p on a weekday? (looking to waste the afternoon, but probably head out before 6p until I can negotiate a poker night with the girlfriend on my off days).

Play at the Oaks is god-awful, especially during weekend evenings, obviously. I haven't had great luck there the few times I've gone, but the games are extremely beatable. I usually play 3/6 HE or 4/8 O8 with a half-kill. The Omaha game can be crushed by anyone who knows the basics of the game, it's easier than Party .5/1 in my opinion. As a curiosity, they also spread one table of self-dealt, 10/20 (I think?) single-draw lowball that usually doesn't have anyone under the age of 60 sitting in.

There is valet parking for $2, which is well worth it. They also have security in the parking lot, and I've never felt like I was in danger while going there. BUT, it's not a nice part of town. Driving in (I live about 3 mi. away in the Lake Merritt area), you will see prostitutes, drug dealers, etc. on the Ave. at night. But as long as you drive, go in, come out and leave, you'd be fine.
