And as for Hawaii, they should be ranked lower than Kansas. Kansas has at least played Sun Belt teams... and has won more convincingly. Why does Hawaii get credit where the Jayhawks don't?

219-23 over Central Michigan, Southeast Louisiana, Toledo and Florida International is just as good as 271-94 over Northern Colorado, @Louisiana Tech (in overtime), @UNLV, Charleston Southern, and @Idaho. 586 points and #16 for Hawaii, 3 points for Kansas? Come on, either blowing out terrible opponents is worth something, or it's not. Make up your mind.

Good point. I would definitely argue that KAN's results are not 'just as good' as HAW's but, in fact, are better.

KAN has essentially played 4 'real' teams and destroyed them all.
HAW has only played 3 real teams and really struggled with 1 of them.

I'll admit I had no idea about KAN because they have flown so far under the radar with their crappy schedule and don't have the kind of hype that HAW has brought onto themselves.
But now that I'm looking at them I'm pretty damn impressed.

For those who don't feel like looking it up:
52-7 over Central Mich
62-0 over SE Louisiana
45-13 over Toledo
55-3 over Fla Int.

Wow.
Cent Mich and SE La have very little defense but I would think they would own NCU and Char-Sou pretty badly.
The point is, KAN didn't even as much as hiccup against these lower-rung teams whereas OSU is sitting around struggling to get past AKR, etc etc.

45-13 over TOL is a bit more legit imo.
TOL battled half-decently vs. PUR and only lost to Iowa St by 1.
55-3 over FlaInt isn't that thrilling. But that same FlaInt team only lost to MD 26-10 and only lost to Miami 23-9.

I completely agree that if destroying cupcakes count for that much then KAN should be ranked higher than HAW.

Also, I would love for a KAN vs. HAW matchup right now. The betting would be heavily towards HAW and drive the line who knows where. I would be all over KAN.

there is very little point in arguing this, but you're aware that 3 of those HI games were on the road? Inviting dumpy little Toledo to play in your home stadium and then calling it a good win over a "real" team does not impress me. That they've done this 4 times does impress me a little. I guess the difference is that I've seen HI play, O and D. It is really hard to judge the rest of the WAC as their OOC games vs. better conferences aren't that many and are generally on the road. Utah did destroy UCLA 44-6 in Utah. FSU loses by 2 at Texas AM. In general though, they look pretty weak. Perhaps the top 3, FSU, BSU, HI are simply that much better than the rest. Lampooning HI for a road win just doesn't work for me. A damn good Oklahoma team lost by 3 to freaking colorado. Being a great non big6 team does not mean beating every in conference opponent you play by 40. Football just doesn't work that way.

further proof that Wisconsin at #5 is a joke

Illinois -3 v Wisconsin at 3 major online books, -2.5 at the other

Illinois isn't known for its home field advantage

I understand that polls are results oriented and not the objective judge of who is better, but this is ridic

they're saying Illinois is even with Wisky on a nuetral field
lollerskates at #5

too bad the pollsters don't have their own sportsbook

But what if they only lose to OSU? A one loss team who lost to a top 5 from a BCS conference?

It just seems wrong that Wisconsin could very easily get to play on New Year's Day.

[/ QUOTE ]

Take it up with the BCS, the TV people, the college presidents and everyone else who's involved in the abortion of a post-season system that's in place. Three teams from the sad sack Big 10 will be playing on Jan. 1, and if Wisconsin only loses once, they'll deserve to be there - at which point they'll be pummeled mercilessly by the loser of the Cal/USC game or by some random SEC team.

As soft as Wisconsin's schedule is, if they manage to make it through with only a loss @ tOSU, they'll be as deserving as anybody. Wisconsin will have had to win @ Illinois, @ Penn State and vs. Michigan - not as tough as in other years but no picnic. They won't have played Northwestern (big deal) or Purdue. As we saw Saturday and have seen in past years, it's hard to win 'em all.

Oh, wait, is your concern that a 1-loss Wisconsin might snag an at large BCS berth from a 2-loss or 3-loss SEC or Pac 10 team? LOL.

Interesting typo.

Relax, Wisconsin haters. Once they lose, they'll drop like a rock.

Use of the word 'mercilessly' should have been your first clue...

It's interesting how everyone agrees that polls are crap, and that everyone knows that the only reason Wisconsin is ranked #5 is because a bunch of borderline retarded "journalists" *guessed* that they would probably be pretty good this year, and now are too lazy to overcome the negligible amount of inertia it would take to simply write a larger number next to their name, yet when we had the "how would you fix college football" thread, people were UP IN ARMS to stop a playoff.
