Since when are Lenny Bruce and (especially) Freddie Mercury "kinda" famous?

Three generations of my family know who Freddie Mercury is.

I can see Freddie Mercury being famous... but not quite icon status. I put him up there cause I really do miss him. One of the top 5 front men ever IMO, (and probably most of OOT too) I think he may have had another anthem or two if he could have lived a decade or two longer.

Outside OOT, most people have no idea who Lenny Bruce was. Dustin Hoffman played him in a movie, and most people have never seen it, even with the star power of Hoffman.

Dude Freddy Mercury is a legend. I think his legend will continue to grow as we become more and more removed from his passing. Just a truly great and unique musician and a heck of a stage presence.

He probably should be a bigger legend than Jim Morrison, but for some reason, isn't.

Also, John Candy was also in National Lampoon's Vacation. Remember, the rent-a-cop taken hostage by Chase's pellet gun?

If you don't remember that, then I'll submit Great Outdoors.

JT Walsh

This is a really good answer.

IS Joe Strummer an acceptable response?

I admit it--I miss GG too.

Or maybe I just miss knowing he exists, I don't know.

Peter Boyle, the dad from Everybody Loves Raymond, among other things

[/ QUOTE ]

He was the dad in other shows, too?

Hm. And I always just thought of him as Wizard.

Whatever, guys, I got it perfectly with the first response. JT Walsh isn't too famous, and just try to watch Pleasantville or A Few Good Men or something without wishing that guy was still around.

[/ QUOTE ]

You were doing so well and then you mentioned those two movies.

Let's try again: The Grifters and Sling Blade.
