Re: The Mike Vick case... am I a life nit?
CMI,
no doubt. i am pretty much criticizing the league myself for not handling things better in the past. what irks me is that people are using this as an argument against Vick's guilt, when it's clearly a poor one. same thing with the whole 'they're treating dogs as better than women' argument. |

Re: The Mike Vick case... am I a life nit?
CMI, there have been some pretty significant changes in their behavioral policies since just last year.

Re: The Mike Vick case... am I a life nit?
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] I guess my real question is, where in the legislation does it suggest that if you have an insect fighting ring that's fine, but if you use dogs you're [censored]? [/ QUOTE ] As ridiculous as it sounds, I actually like this question a lot. [/ QUOTE ] If legislation had to cover every possible thing you can imagine, it would be infinitely more bloated and useless than it is already. A judge can certainly interpret that mosquito fighting falls under animal cruelty legislation but this judgment would certainly be overruled by the appeal. All a judge has to work with is the vague law as written and his interpretation of its applications within the context of societal mores. Yes, you can argue that there are no "societal mores" but you would be wrong. Judges have to work as pragmatists to get their jobs done. But don't fool yourself into thinking "if it's not explicitly illegal, then it's legal." The whole point of a judge's duty is to use... um... judgment. If there were nothing to interpret that required judgment, we wouldn't need judges. |

Re: The Mike Vick case... am I a life nit?
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] I think it's worse to rape one woman than to torture and kill all the dogs on earth. [/ QUOTE ] Hmm. Ok, which of the following is preferable. Scenario A: One woman gets punched in the boob really hard by Mike Tyson. Scenario B: All non-essential animals (for sustaining human life) are tortured and killed. I mean, I agree with you that it's hypocritical that some of the same people calling for Vick's head could turn around and root for a different guy that beats his wife and not give a crap. But your statement is still absurd. [/ QUOTE ] Non-essential animals are just that to me, non-essential. Rape is a crime of violence against a human being, and IMO one person >>>>> all animals combined. They are ANIMALS. Some are cute and cuddly, etc., but sheesh. I don't see why my statement is absurd. Please explain. |

Re: The Mike Vick case... am I a life nit?
To all those who keep bitching and moaning about how all the "more heinous crimes of others in the past were simply forgot about after a year, yet ZOMG Vick is getting railroaded nonstop!" How long has it been since the dog ring was discovered, and charges brought? Maybe 2 months? We're in the middle of the storm right now, but come back in 10 months and see if people are still talking about it. Until then, just shut the hell up.
