Have you people considered that we are trying to keep our status for the drinking Olympics? I think the bartender guy likes people who order straight liquor because that's less work for him. [/ QUOTE ] I didn't say that. G and T's are classic and old school, nothing amateur hour or girly about them at all, IMO. Ordering a jack and coke, however, is usually a dead giveaway that the person ordering it doesn't drink much/is pretty young. This is b/c the only reason to order something and coke is because you don't like the taste of alcohol, since coke pretty much obliterates the alcohol taste. And I thought my opinion on this was relevant since I'm a bartender and the OP's question was what to drink to look sophisticated. As a general rule, it looks sophisticated to order drinks that demonstrate you like the taste of alcohol, since it is an acquired taste. That said, I agree with what others have said--you should order whatever you want to drink. I don't care if you like drinking white wine spritzers out of a coconut, and I certainly don't judge people based on what they drink. But if you like girly/amateur-hour drinks, be prepared for people to call a spade a spade.
