Re: Aussie Millions Thread
[ QUOTE ]
I knew gus had [censored] but I thought his [censored] might be better than mine on the flop or turn. I was thinking about RAISING the river, not if I was going to call. [/ QUOTE ] Jimmy, it looked to me like you played very well throughout, and I don't understand where the hate is coming from. However, in this hand after you said "I don't know how I got to this decision with this hand," you followed up with "but now that I have, can I actually fold?" And eventually threw in the good call. So that seems to contradict what you said above. Anyway, good job and good luck in future tournaments. |

[/ QUOTE ]It's pretty clear that the ace on the river changed both players' river strategies- I'd guess that the massive change in the texture of the hand prompted this comment. I have no doubt he knew how he got there when he made that comment, but I also think he knew his hand was going to look pretty ridiculous when he made the call, (as it did). |

Also, I was going to try to stop responding, but seriously, this stuff:
Ville Laukkanen 2c2h Jimmy Fricke Kc7s and Paul Wasicka Ac10d Jimmy Fricke KdJs is nowhere near a bad beat. |

Re: Aussie Millions Thread
what is leveling?
Also, Gobbo places no importance on reading the other players while guys like Negreanu and Hellmuth place great importance on reading the other players. Gobbo says internet players are better at pure poker than live players. Gobbo is guilty of hubris. |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] The internet pros are a lot better at pure poker skill than the live players for this reason. [/ QUOTE ] You're leveling, right? [/ QUOTE ] Are you? [/ QUOTE ] No. Jimmy, I'm not going to be one of these haters and yell about how lucky you got, etc. I just happen to disagree with that statement. Best of luck brother, and nice job in Australia. |

Re: Aussie Millions Thread

Gobbo says internet players are better at pure poker than live players. [/ QUOTE ]He is not the only one who claims this. I've never played live, but from what I've heard most live play is very weak/tight and a lot softer than online play. However, the best players like Hansen don't come across that way to me. He seems to really, really get the math/analytical part of the game better than any live pro I've seen (of course, my information is limited to just what I've seen on TV). I'm actually very interested in what Gobbo thought of playing against Gus and how reality compares to his image of being super loose and aggressive (which I know has been accentuated by television). |

Re: Aussie Millions Thread
The funny thing about all this is that Gus was on the receiving end of all this "lol he had teh worst hand LOL nh FISH" result-oriented idiocy when he first showed up on the WPT. Freddy Deeb said he wanted to play against "that guy" every day for the rest of his life. And Mike Sexton's head would almost explode any time Gus made a no-brainer pot odds call with live cards, or bet the flop with air.
Anyway, the fact that gobbo only came 2nd proves that going all in works every time but once! |

Re: Aussie Millions Thread
Yeah, I was impressed/surprised by some of Gus's plays on the last few Aussie Millions episodes. The hand where he defended his blind, checkraised a T22 flop, then lead out on a K turn was very nice, showing (to my knowledge, at least) that he understood that Gobbo could have been floating or calling really light on the flop to freeze Gus, on top of all the standard preflop steal and c-betting levels. Obv the show was set up to make Gus look good, but still.
Most other live pros, though, just don't seem to have the same grasp of math and analysis, and the statement that the best internet players are better at "pure poker" skills is not a stretch at all, and probably just plain correct, imo. |
