I just took a drivers safety course (thanks speeding tickets), and found out that speed is the #1 factor in determining the likelyhood of a fatality in an accident. This is common sense. If you crash going 35, its very rare someone will be killed.

And poker funds terrorism too.

Except of course that your statement is false while the other is blatantly obvious. Two cars going 5000 MPH crash and two cars going 1 MPH crash. Who's gonna die? :P

[/ QUOTE ]

Both are government generated propoganda.

You get to be on a regular, non-rush hour freeway. You can either be driving 100mph, or 10mph -- take your pick.

Have you read any of my posts in other threads?

Will you all of a sudden drive like a dangerous and reckless person if these camera's are removed and police stop doing speed traps?

[/ QUOTE ]
What if we removed all speed limits? And laws against driving drunk? Can't I decide how fast I want to go on any given street or how many shots I should be allowed to slam before hitting the road? Can't have anyone controlling what we do, can we? Who do they think they are???

Make no mistake, I'm an ACist, and would like to see the roads owned privately. And if the owner of a particular road wants to set up a camera every 6 feet, I say have at it. I might not use his road if I'm in a hurry somewhere, but I have nothing against the concept of a speeding camera.

Are you possibly this stupid? Do you realize that two people going 10mph can hit each other in any way and no one will die? If two people going 100mph hit each other (or a wall), a fatality is nearly certain. There is no differential of speed in this case. Slower speeds = fewer fatalities.

[/ QUOTE ]

yeah, if the government doesn't keep making more laws and more rules to control me I will probably get in my car with a damn blindfold on and floor it....

No, I won't drive like a maniac, but I would probably drive faster almost all the time.

Maybe you can answer my question of why there should be any traffic laws.

What they don't tell you in those classes is that a driver going 40 and another going 70 on the same road is more unsafe than all the drivers going 80. It is not in their best interest to tell you that. Again, speed doesn't kill--different speeds kill. If they would enforce who drives in what lane instead of the speed of everyone, we would be much better off.

[/ QUOTE ]

And if everyone is going 120mph, thats far more safe than if people are going between 70 and 40mph as well. Or even 200 mph. Because speed plays no factor, just DIFFERENCE in speed.

Of course, you can only have a difference in speed if someone is actually going considerably faster than other cars.

Tell me the next time you see a fatal wreck not involving a pedestrian, motorcyclist, or bicycle when someone is driving < 50mph.

[/ QUOTE ]

All right--let's all slow down to 25 mph and that way we can make sure no one gets hurt--better yet, let's eliminate cars altogether and make sure no body gets hurt due to cars.

People can drown in 3" of water or 30,000' feet of water. Car hitting pedestrian at 25 mph is still EV- for the pedestrian and he may be better off getting killed than living as a paraplegic supported by our welfare system.

This thread was not about eliminating all traffic laws or removing the speed limit. The question was don't you think that taking a picture and sending it to your home saying pay this ticket you were speeding, is a violation of our personal freedom? Face it the government is getting to big and controlling. It is a fact and there is no arguing this.

Getting rid of publicly funded roads and letting the free market do it's thing is sounding better now isn't it?

Aren't you the guy who consistently complains about ACers being wrongfully accused of hijacking threads?

[/ QUOTE ]
Why is it a hijack?

Because there's nothing stopping the private owner of a road from taking your picture from a van and issuing you a citation if he deems your driving inappropriate. Yep. Privatization fixes everything.

[/ QUOTE ]
Speeding cameras are not inheritantly a problem. But if enough people think this is a problem, there won't be speeding cameras, do you see why?

Remember all the doom prophets telling us of the end of world when the 55mph speed limit was lifted?

They must be writing more pamhplets.
