[ QUOTE ] Nirvana - "Where Did You Sleep Last Night" (Leadbelly) [/ QUOTE ] Speaking of covers found on the Nirvana unplugged album, Nirvana's version of "The Man Who Sold the World" beats the everliving [censored] out of David Bowie's. [/ QUOTE ] Lake of Fire is a cover too (The Meatpuppets) and is way better than the original obv. |

Re: cover songs better than the original

yeah it does. there are like 6 covers on that album and they're all good. [/ QUOTE ] Yah definitely. The Nirvana covers of the Meat Puppet's songs are all better than the originals. Although I don't know if it counts because I think some member(s) of MP actually played in the set. I must be the only person who thinks that Cash's version of Hurt is not better than the original NIN version. I've always felt people overrated that song because it was put out relatively close to the end for Cash. It was good on it's own, then people seemed to rate it as being "better" only in that context (not just as a song), but IMO it just isn't on the same level as the original. |

I've got a speed metal version of "These Boots are Made for Walking" on MP3. I've also got Weezer playing the theme from "The Dukes of Hazard". Both of those are great. Jewel has a very good cover of "Wild Horses". Lisa Bonet sang an excellent version of Peter Frampton's "Baby, I Love Your Way" in the movie High Fidelity. "Hurt" by Johhny Cash may be one of the best covers of all time. Al Green and Lyle Lovett did a kickass version of "Ain't It Funny How Time Slips Away". [/ QUOTE ] Mazi Star also did a good cover of Wild Horses Rasberry Beret covered by Hindu Love Gods was cool. (REM minus Stipe, Warren Zevon singing) The revolting [censored] covering Do ya think Im sexy Several good covers of Because the Night...My faves are 10000 maniacs and Keel |

Re: cover songs better than the original
I'll probably get crucified for this, but I really like A Perfect Circle's "Imagine" over Lennon's original. The darker music fits the song better in my opinion.
Also, I'm pretty sure Led Zeppelin didn't originally perform "When the Levee Breaks," but I cannot really imagine much better than that. |

[/ QUOTE ] The lyrics come from Memphis Minnie's When The Levee Breaks. The amazingness of the zep tune comes from John Henry Bonham. |
