When I was a kid, every time I read the word "awry" I pronounced it "aw-ree" in my head. Luckily, I never had occassion to actually use that word. One day while reading, for some random reason, my brain decided to pronounce it "a-rye" and a lightbulb went off in my head and I knew before going to the dictionary that that was how you pronounce it. [/ QUOTE ] Omfg I was all ready to post this exact thing, except what changed it for me, was my mother making fun of me for like two days for saying "aw-ree". I saw it in a Gary Larson cartoon, understood the meaning, but [censored] up the pronounciation. |

I actually thought that the correct pronunciation and the phoenetic pronunciation were two different words.... I used to be retarded. |
