[/ QUOTE ] Not a fighter pilot, reread earlier in the thread. To become a fighter pilot: get a college degree, get an officers commission in the Navy, go to flight school. If you do well enough in flight school, you get to select jets and then go to advanced. Do well in advanced and get a Hornet/Superhornet spot. Thats pretty much it in a nutshell. Top Gun is a different ball of wax. The official name is the Navy Fighter Weapons School. Its where selected pilots/NFOs go to be designated Strike Fighter Tactics Instructors. Its highly competitive and very challenging. You can apply to go after your first sea tour but you have to be top notch to even be considered. And of course I havent been since Im not in strike fighters. |

where does the poop go? [/ QUOTE ] Ocean. All the garbage generated by 5000+ people too. When I was mess cooking I was on trash and garbage detail. Doesn't sound like it but a very plum assignment. During and after each meal we would haul bag after bag after bag of meal garbage to the fantail and toss it overboard. When in port at a pier (or just off coast) there are internal septic tank sorta things that collect which are then pumped through hoses into proper receptacles but out at sea it's the ocean (but never close to land). |

My brother was an AET on the Kitty Hawk in the early to mid 90s. He has some incredible shore leave stories.
What's the craziest thing you saw/did on shore leave. |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] What would the consequences be for pulling one of those top gun fly bys in the real world? [/ QUOTE ] you forgot this guy's question [/ QUOTE ] Sure did, nice catch. Doing that in real life would get you in a lot of trouble and could potentially get your wings pulled. [/ QUOTE ]VR, Not really if its approved, but you know that. I recently launched out of San Diego with a girl in my right seat who was married to a guy that JUST deployed on the Reagan the last night. They were like 150 miles off the coast, and she called and requested, and it was done. The S-3 isn't exactly an impressive fly-by machine though, so it was pretty gay. |
