I am a huge, huge SRV fan. he's the reason I started playing guitar. but it's really not fair to compare him to jimi . [/ QUOTE ] I agree, but it had to be done. |

I like it, but not as much as the older stuff. I would recommend Wired, Blow By Blow, Guitar Shop, and maybe Truth. |

OMG, i actually want to kill you. If you had any taste in music or knew ANYTHING about music, you would understand that all music is percieved differently by different people and everything has its own merits. Which also applies to this thread, there is no "best ever" guitarist. Its all subject to peoples individule perception of each guitarist. Your too musicly ignorant too understand Dream Theater, which is fair enough if your not seriously into music. But DONT critisize something you know ABSOLUTLY NOTHING about. thank you. [/ QUOTE ] I would respond to this, but to come on here with 4 posts and tell me that you want to kill me is in very poor taste. Please go away. |

[/ QUOTE ] Well he is right, although wanting to kill you is a little extreme. [/ QUOTE ] Well, we will have to agree to disagree there lol. Alex Skolnick, who certainly knows a lot about good music, is revolted by DT as much as I am. An example of how a Berklee education does not necessarily produce great music. But I don't want to argue about that. Jazz guitarists haven't gotten much notice in this thread, so I will nominate Mike Stern, who plays here in NYC on occasion, and is a guitar god. Pat Martino is also a virtuoso. Bill Frisell makes beautiful music, and he has a quirky unorthodox style. So many guitarists...Joe Pass...amazing...John McLaughlin goes without saying. Of the blues guitarists I'm very fond of Albert King, Freddy King, Buddy Guy (although sometimes his playing is a bit too frenzied, like he's on meth), and Johnny Winter. Of course I have to give a plug to Alex Skolnick, who has released two albums of jazz adaptations of rock songs. He does Detroit Rock City, No One Like You (Scorpions) and many others. Definitely worth checking out cuz this guy can play. I bet his website has some samples. He's also on a recent Testament live DVD (if you are into thrash metal). |

Good music is all personal opinion. You may not think they produce great music but that certainly isn't a fact. I think Testament sucks but I'm not going around preaching that and I don't look down on someone for liking them. |

How about this: it's my opinion that anyone who is a fan of DT's music has bad taste in music, based on my own personal understanding of what music is good and what isn't. |
