Team USA really sucked it hard

While true the WBC does tend to show my point. Collections of superstars (USA, Dominican) were inferior to teams (Japan, Cuba). Granted if those superstar collections had a proper spring training and a full season together things may have turned out differently. Better talent is a good thing in baseball. I just think that statistically oriented baseball fans miss a lot of the big picture that is emphasised by proper team and situational play.

It sounds like you might be completely overlooking the effects of variance in a short series or a small number of games.

If the Yankees got sweeped by the Royals, would that make KC the superior team?

No, it doesn't.

This is what is commonly known in the poker world as "small sample size" problems.

This was an awesome thread, and as the playoffs approach, I'd really like to give this a bump to see how things have changed.

Catcher: Victor Martinez is good, but Joe Mauer is probably better.
1B: Do you move Pujols to LF/RF to make room for Berkman or keep him here?
2B: Chase Utley, not close.
SS: Jeter's had an awesome season or is it still Tejada?
3B: A-Rod or Cabrera?
LF: Is there a better argument for Manny now than there was?
CF: I don't think anyone's still picking Jones now. Beltran? Sizemore?
RF: It's still gotta be Vlad, right?
DH: Ortiz, considering Hafner's hurt.

SP: Santana, not close. Webb, Carpenter, Rivera are all in the BP.

Oh, and the tigers are obviously for real.

I'm going to put in a (homer) vote for Wells in center. Also, is Ichiro in RF an option? There was an SI players pole where he was voted best OF arm in the majors.

Ichiro is much closer to being amongst the worst RF in the majors than the best.(Overall - not arm.)
