ummm..there are also 2+2'ers who are going for it who aren't talking about it (partly because they don't feel like it..partly because they don't want to encourage others).

I met a 2+2'er on the cruise last year who said he did the second marathon promotion (on the BBJ tables) after reading of my successful marathon.

sniper - I kind of understand party's logic here even though I'd prefer they just tell me I'm good.
But they want to encourage everyone to keep playing...if they tell the 30 people tha tthey have made it then everyone else would just give up.

That's the logic I think they're using anyway.

I guess they also want to confirm that the points appear legitimate too or something like that.

I would think they might be able to actually encourage MORE play if they just posted a leader-board for it like they are doing for their blackjack thing.
If you could see where you stood on the top 50 players then I think that would encourage MORE people to keep pushing REALLY hard because they have a chance...and they have to beat the other players...etc etc.

I'm not a big fan of having to wait around to know...which is why I like the straight-forwardness and less-screw-with-you philosophy of the Stars VIP program

But...if I get the cruise I'll still be happy and will expect to have a spectacular time again.
(obviously there's a reason why I did this insane marathon thing again).

It's none of my business what you guys do with your time and money, but I think you're both nuts. All that time, effort and burn out for a lottery ticket. Not my cup of tea.

As to the other guy and table selection. Well, table selection might be a big part of it, but when you're playing a spit load of games, I don't care what anybody says, your skill level drops considerably. I know mine does, so that's why I play short sessions when I'm playing lots of games. Your mind just starts to blurr--it's hard to follow the action. There are just so many situations where you need to sweat the play very closely. Otherwise you miss out on a lot of bluffs and good lay downs--especially playing limit. It's much easier for me to multi-table playing no-limit.

That being said, good luck to both of you if you make it. But the main reason I wouldn't even consider doing this thing is not knowing my status as I play along. That seriously sucks. You've got to know how you're doing and what your chances are or what's the point?

I played 4 days straight once when I was 25. Playing four hours straight these days is a marathon, which I never do except in a tournament.

I guess youth has its advantages.

I agree completely.

"But the main reason I wouldn't even consider doing this thing is not knowing my status as I play along. That seriously sucks."

Again, I agree completely.
I did this last year too though so know decently the value of what I'm getting as well as the struggles of actually doing this silly thing.

"All that time, effort and burn out for a lottery ticket."

It's not quite as much of a lottery-ticket as you might think.
Because 90% of the tourney players qualified online they use a VERY flat pay-out structure to make more people happy. Almost 25% of the players make the money.

Last year:
735 players in the tourney.
141st through 180th won $5200.
55th through 140th won $10400.

I was in 61st place after day 1 (with 280 left) but finished 177th for $5200.
I was thrilled. It was my first live tourney and I cashed.

"I guess youth has its advantages."

I'm 35...which I think around here means I'm practically a senior-citizen.

Metetron is indeed of the younger crowd though (I think he's 21 or 22 or so).

I was going to do this challenge but I wouldn't have had the total 50k points needed to buy the cruise.

i beleive it was mason malmuth who said that after learning the basics of poker, table selection is key to be a winning player.

the other night at UB 50NL, i saw two tables, one had an avg pot size of $3, another $30. too funny.

Quick question: are the players at party 10/20 and 5/10 that bad?
That one can reasonably expect to beat them while 10 tabling and exercising no game selection?

If the answer is yes, then I'm making Party my new home...

So what are the rules to this? Would it be possible for you and another person to set up a private room and keep folding hands to each other all day?
