Re: Week 10 Rank\'em
Now now, MT2R, don't get carried away with the all-caps. I recognize your point, but there *are* reasons to put OSU #1, just as there *are* reasons to put Kansas #1. I'm not sure where I stand on it yet, and am looking forward to your numbers as always, but I don't think it's clear-cut in either direction.

Re: Week 10 Rank\'em
Sagarin predictor, philsteele's +/-, and LVSC all have OSU way above Kansas, so... I think there's a reason OSU is ranked higher. It's not just dumb [censored].

USC was ahead of UF in the BCS, loses to Oregon, while UF loses to Georgia, and 3 loss Florida somehow jumps them a couple weeks later. What a joke. Re: Week 10 Rank\'em
[ QUOTE ]
Let's see. Oklahoma beat one top ten team in Sagarin's top 10 and another in his top 30. USC hasn't beaten a top 30 team. Stanford (3-6) is worse than Colorado (5-5) according to his rankings (78th vs 43rd). So, based on that, Oklahoma cannot currently be considered as bad as USC. [/ QUOTE ] Well, they're not. |

[/ QUOTE ] [/ QUOTE ] because the Jayhawks have played more than Ohio State has I will have the math up on my blog soon there is no reason to put Ohio State ahead of Kansas other than preseason rankings NO REASON [/ QUOTE ] How about that their defense has been dominant all season, hasn't given up more than 17 points in a single game and ranks #1 in the country in both scoring defense and total defense. They've also scored at least 20 in every game also which means that if you match up the offense from their worst offensive game with the defense from their worst defensive game, they still don't lose. Meanwhile, if you matchup Kansas' defensive performance against Nebraska or K-State with one of the weak offensive performances, they've got a loss right now. How about the fact that OSU beat Washington, Purdue, Penn State, and Wisconsin all by at least 16 points (all Top 50 teams according to Sagarin) while the best team Kansas has a double-digit win over is #71 Nebraska. I'd even go you one better and say the "ONLY" reason to rank Kansas as the #1 team in the country is if you believe that Kansas State is legitimately the 17th best team in the country (like the Sagarin predictor does). I don't quite buy that. They've got an explosive offense that can run up the score on a weaker opponent, but they're not balanced enough to be a legitimate Top 20 team. Top 40? Sure. Top 30? Maybe. Top 20? Definitely not. Outside of Kansas State, Kansas has beaten no one as good as the upper-tier teams on Ohio State's schedule and as such, I see no reason to anoint them as the #1 team. Even Sagarin has them #2, #2, and #6, behind Ohio State in every category. |
