Where were you aiming? Right where you hit him?

If you had missed (like thrown at his head and he ducked) would you have thrown at him again? If so, right away or give him some time to mull it over? What was more important - hurting him or sending the message?

Would there have been fallout for you if you hadn't thrown at him?

tdarko-

great trip report (and video). I only played baseball thru about the 5th grade; so don't know the answer to this question:

As a pitcher; how good is your control? Do you feel 100% confident you could hit someone in the head if you wanted to?
did you go for the numbers because that is the most 'sure hit'?

Could you tag someone in the face / neck / head / knee anytime you wanted?

also- if he was expecting it and ducked the pitch....would you have thrown at him again?

when pitchers throw at batters on purpose, like darko said, its retaliation as well as protecting your teammates. Hockey is the same way, that's why teams have enforcers. IF someone cheap shots the captain, there will most definately be a fight. It's just part of the game and personally, I don't think it's ever going to change. IMO, I think it is a good thing although it can get ugly at times.

An interesting book about the NHL

That book rules. Someone needs to sit Bettman down and read it to him.

TDarko- nice work. Great thread.

bettman said that he's not gonna change any of the rules about fighting, which is a good thing imo.

I like the fact that you represented pitchers well with that takedown.

He can enjoy his league's huge TV ratings in a cable channel that 80% of the country couldn't find with a map then. He is destroying the NHL one retarded decision at a time.

I was aiming for the ribs so that when he turned in it would hit him in the middle of the back, so I threw it right where I wanted to. If I had missed I would have gone for it on the very next pitch as well. I wasn't trying to hurt him per se-- which I will touch on in TxSteve's question, I was just sending the message that you can't treat our players like that w/o something happening.

If I intend to throw a ball somewhere it will usually go pretty close to where I intend it to go, I can never use the word "always" b/c pitching can be a mechanical thing as well as an emotional thing. My control is pretty good and if I aimed for someone's head it would go dangerously close but I would never throw a baseball at anyone's head. I had made the decision before the game that I wasn't going to go head hunting b/c I felt that that now brought me down to his level, someone that tries to injure people and I am not playing this game to do that but at the same time I can put a 90 MPH fastball in his back which hurts but doesn't go near the face and an area that can ruin a career. I had talked about it w/ our catcher and we both agreed that it was the right thing to do.

You go for the numbers b/c it sends the best message. You hit the guy anywhere below the ribs and it doesn't really do much, you go above the shoulder and you are now being dangerous--it is safe but effective.
