guys, check out boardgamegeek for more info on this stuff...

as for me, settlers is a great game, tons of fun and play it all the time online...

just throwing some opinions out there...

ultimate stratego for 4 player action, but unfortunately can't find an online version of it...

i play diplomacy a lot online, though the games tend to take a few months and sometimes i don't have the patience to wait days in between orders...

carcassonne is indeed a great game which is fairly short...

ticket to ride is nice, but fairly time consuming as is tigris and euphrates...

[/ QUOTE ]

Uhm... Settlers takes like twice as long as either Ticket to Ride or T&E.

lots of fun esp. when everyone is drinking and there are playful girls in the mix.

cranium is alright if you're into good clean fun, which seems to be the case here.

i didn't include A2A in my list, because I really think of it as more of a party game than a board game, but if you include it, it's up there for me.

1. the scoring system is amazing. it's really about knowing how your friends will judge. i often sort my hand to prioritize saving some answers for specific people if I can, etc.

2. I love the built in clock, how the slowest player is punished for being slow. this is by far the most genius part of this game, and wish it was included in more games.

3. it can be played with nearly any number of people. there are even moderately fun solitaire games to play (more like puzzles, figuring out how to best match up 7 nouns with 7 adjetives..)

Axis & Allies is only fun when I play as the Axis powers against a person that's new to the game. With seasoned players, the game is unfairly weighted in favor of the Allies.

Roborally is a great game that hasn't been mentioned yet. It was created by Richard Garfield(MTG) and recently released in Hasbro's Avalon Hill line.

Tuq, there's a new edition of Talisman coming out soon. I don't think I could gather enough nerds to get a decent game going though.

Bloodbowl was pretty damned fun when one of the local game stores had a tournament league with a decent number of players.

Has anyone ever played any of the following games.

Win lose or draw
Uncle Wiggley
Life
Garfield
Parcheesi (great strategy game)

Any other board games you play super competitivly with friends.
I find Parchessi a very good game to play for dough. The dice takes some of the skill from the game but the blocking aspect lends itself to the skill element.

Thanks, just saw this. What was the big title(s) that Richard Garfield produced? The name is familiar.

Anyway, thanks for the Talisman news. Just seeing the board gives me a jones for a fix. But it looks like just the basic game is on sale, I had like 2-3 expansion packs (however many there were), including one with a totally different endgame.

Solar Quest anyone?

similar concept to monopoly but in outer space, plus you need fuel to get around and can have laser fights if you land on the same square.

Parchesi and Life, yes.

Also really liked that card game Racko, but I guess that doesn't count.
