[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Well I guess theres a million books on cash games and they're still profitable. [/ QUOTE ] There's a big difference though in the amount of improvement that can be had almost immediately in SNGs though. If you get a bunch of people who take nothing from the book but to nit it up early and learn any 2 spots, it will have a huge impact on the profitability of the games. [/ QUOTE ] It takes alot more than just books, reading forums etc. Until recently I had played 1500+ sngs read a couple books, the forum etc. but in my head I would still think wtf 78s looks good here or "they may have me now but what if I hit the flop". Its really hard to change mentality from "gambling" to "working" and I think as long as ppl have day jobs it will still be gambling and they will still raise 4bb from utg w/ j10s 9 handed. Remember people play to have fun, they dont care if their roi is -10%. There are enough resources out there now I don't think one book will make any difference. [/ QUOTE ] a GOOD book, written speficically about SNGs would change the profitability of the games dramaticaly fairly quickly |

[/ QUOTE ] [/ QUOTE ] prof·it·a·ble –adjective 1. yielding profit; remunerative: a profitable deal. 2. beneficial or useful. [Origin: 1275–1325; ME; see profit, -able] —Related forms prof·it·a·bil·i·ty , prof·it·a·ble·ness, noun prof·it·a·bly, adverb —Synonyms 2. advantageous, valuable, helpful. anyways - point is, it would make the games LESS PROFITABLE |

Re: OT: [censored] thread, April, READ RULES IN TOP POST
There are a few different possible effects I think we could see from a book published about sngs. 3 of them I list below. There are more combinations but I wanted to do this to demonstrate that its not as simple as 'people know how to play better therefore sngs are less profitable.'
1) Same number of player. The typical player is better and the average skill of players increases. Sngs become less profitable. 2) Much more players. The typical player is better but the average skill level of player decreases. Sngs become more profitable. 3) There are a few more players and the typical player is a bit better. But everything remains constant in terms of profitability. The last 2 are interesting because while people might know more about sngs, what is lost (for us) by their increase in skill is gained because people have more confidence in their play, founded or not, and play much more. Therefore the increase in volume in average and mediocre players and lost from bad players is made up for by the fact that you don't have to play spacegravy at every damn table of every day. What'll happen? All of these (and other) effects might be seen as sngs have to find a new equilibrium. It'll be interesting. |
