...redesigned the room (Although I love the space as a player, its actually not conducive for marketing the room - weird but true)... [/ QUOTE ] How is the poker room space at the Venetian not conducive to marketing the room? ~ Rick |

They did get the 40/80 game going last night, along with a 15/30 AND 8/16, so it sounds like the promotion is working.
[ QUOTE ] Its a very comfortable room to play in, I fully agree. But for a world class room it totally missed the boat. Bad management, bad dealers, bad floor (I did like Tom, but thats only because he showered us with gifts, [/ QUOTE ] Go to the AllVegasPoker website and read all the reviews...#1 overall by the editors AND #1 overall in the player reviews. It sounds like they are doing something right. It just seems as though you have something against them or an agenda other than 'tough love'. |

[/ QUOTE ] A rake reduction type promotion will generally attract many locals who are rake conscious and/or quickly become aware of the discount. Once they realize they are playing against a disproportionate amount of other locals they will tend to wonder if its worth it and move on to where the tourists/action junkies play. As mentioned elsewhere, I loved The Venetian when I played it (mostly the 2-5 blind NL) last year. But it took me two days to realize last year's huge free-roll promotion attracted a base of local grinders. The games were worse than other card rooms (plus I wasn't going to get the hours for the free-roll). ~ Rick |

Im having a really hard time understanding why everyone seems to have only negative things to say about the Venetian.
AT least they are trying. If this promotion doesnt work, then they will continue to keep trying. Right now they have: Rake reduction for mid limit games as well as food service on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays I believe. Free food sliced right in front of your face. Do other casinos, ( Bellagio or Wynn, etc ) even try these? At least they are trying new things to get more action in the room. It seems like people want to complain when casinos dont do enough for the locals, but when someone actually does, people want to complain they it wont work and it kills the action. Which is?? Dont you want them to try? or not try at all? Everyone says that people go where the money is. AND THEY ARE RIGHT. The Venetian seems to be trying new things to bring in locals and tourists alike. and guess what..... If all the tight locals are there playing mid limit games then guess where all the action type tourists will go when they are in town. TO THE SAME DAMN PLACE. There are so many poker players on this site, that word gets around in no time. And if word starts to spread that the Venetian is having mid limit games more and more, then the tourists will come over to check it out. Then what will you have??? The Bellagio crowd only even better... because you will have a room that is trying even harder to do the little things for the players. I play poker around town.. WYNN, MGM, Mandalay Bay, and Green Valley Ranch so dont try to tell me that Im loyal to the Venetian and I hate everyone else. I just get so sick of hearing everyone bash this place when they are trying harder than it seems most everyone to make things work. And if it doesnt, they have shown they will try different and maybe more aggressive options... If you dont like the place, you dont have to play there. But why do you have to try to call everyone out in that poker room when things seem to be on the up. If you like.. Go back to the Bellagio where most of the staff sticks their nose at you, or your favorite card room where you think the action is the best. I for one, will continue to go where they treat me the best... and the Venetian is at the top Tommy |

They did get the 40/80 game going last night, along with a 15/30 AND 8/16, so it sounds like the promotion is working. [/ QUOTE ] I played at the V today to see with my own eyes. They were busy, but not packed. The 30 game didn't go because they didn't want to play 7 handed (f'n local nits). As I was leaving it spread, but it was a horrible lineup - I advised Victor (we were playing 2-7) to go to the Bellagio instead because the game was gonna suck. And guess what? The games at the higher mid limits will continue to suck because the promotion attracts that sucky quality of player only. An example why the V's management just doesn't get it yet - They announced a new game list 2-7 triple draw which only requires 6 players for a full game, and can usually be spread shorthanded 3-4 players without any grumbling. There were 5 names on the list and I asked the brush how many people need to be on the list before they spread it - he said "Nine to Ten". I said "You realize 2-7 is a 6 handed game right", he said "Yes, but we wont spread it until the list is long enough to assure a full table, we are short on dealers and I want to make sure there is lots of players first." - Thank you V for thinking like the Mirage, feel free to wait till the list is 2x what it needs to be, because you know 1/3 of the players are going to leave in frustration. On a related note, not all is lost - job well done B&M! |

the people playing them high of limits can easily afford to pay the full $5 a pot rake. its those of us in the 2-4 3-6 limits struggling to win the $50 a nite to cover our room after 10 hours play that desperately need a drop on the rake.

Hello,
As a tourist, this is a promotion I would like: Room rate of $69/99 for 6 hours of play at 2/5 or higher NL or 8/16 or higher limit. (maybe 5/10nl, 15-30 lhe) Would this attract "grinder" tourists like me? Thanks, Ethan |
