Re: Boondock Saints
[ QUOTE ]
I'm not a big fan of action films but I enjoyed this one a lot. Anyone have an opinion on Things To Do In Denver When Your Dead? That was a favorite for awhile. [/ QUOTE ] Bad movie. Sorry. It's hackneyed and stupid and it has Treat Williams in it. The stupid Life Lessons From Dead People thing sucks hard. Andy Garcia's little soliloquoy at the end with the girl he barely knew at all was awful tripe. The lovechild with the hooker with a heart of gold thing was dumb. Steve Buscemi rocks, but come on. The scene in the club with all the gangsters? Sure. That's great. Fecal freak?! Boat drinks and the little hand thing they were all doing? The Jack Warden narrative was stupid. The milkshake thing was inane. The dumb kid mouthing off to Treat Williams? What was the point of that? Christopher Walken's Man With The Plan was idiotic. Flapjacks? Retarded. No, I didn't care for this film. |

BOONDOCK SAINTS IS A GOOD MOVIE- movies are meant for entertainment, it delivers. There's a lot of unnecessary "I'm more pensive than most" bulls*** going on here. Let me guess...you guys hated the first Diehard as well? "Your what, bitch? I'll shoot myself in the head, you can tell me that cats name!" [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, you got me. I'm always falsely proclaiming how PENSIVE I am, when, really, there are a lot of guys are far more PENSIVE than I am. How irreverent of you. |

[/ QUOTE ] Setting aside the discussion on the purpose of movies as art or entertainment (and if there should be any divide between them), what if the movie didn't entertain you but just left you kinda creeped out at the psychology of the writer/director? |

[ QUOTE ]
In order for something to be overrated, it would have to get an undeserved amount of media and fans [/ QUOTE ] FWIW, if I looked right now through hundreds and hundreds of friends to acquaintances on Facebook and Myspace, in the early to late twenties age range, an astounding amount of them have this film as one of their favorites. This movie is pretty huge for college aged kids. This film always reminds me of Donnie Darko in that you watch it when you're 16 and MAN THIS IS SO TRUE RIGHT ON MAN, then you watch it years later and giggle. |

Boondock Saints = horrible. And as Rushmore already addressed, you clearly don't understand the meaning of the word pensive. |

Nath (et al), My only point was why approach a movie like Boondock Saints with Shakespearean analysis. [/ QUOTE ] Did they? A lot of people saw this movie and went with their gut reaction, which was to be underwhelmed, then mildly creeped out. It's not like I saw BS, started to enjoy it, then stopped myself. I wanted to enjoy it, people had recommended this movie; I just couldn't. Every time a scene or joke seemed to work, it would inevitably mutate into either something childish, or unintentionally ridiculous, or ripped off from other films. Die Hard doesn't do this; heck, Crank doesn't do this. |

Why would anyone say that there seems to be a contest to out-brood, outcontemplate, out-meditate, or out-ponder anyone here? Nobody's saying we insist on The Unbearable Lightness of Being, Salo, or The Decameron here. Seems as if folks are just saying The Boondock Saints was goofy and stupid. Even if that IS what the poster believed was being said, "pensive" is still an odd word to use there. Connotatively, the word generally implies one's demeanor, not one's world-view or philosophy. In other words, no one would ever describe himself as "pensive." Would they? |
