I love this Gershwin song, probably not unfamiliar but if some have not heard The Boxer its worth posting.

Someone To watch Over Me.
Its been recorded by many but I think my favorite is Ella Fitzgerald.

Yes,I have heard his version and agree its very good. Roberta Flack is another good one but I have only heard hers with the movie and have had no luck finding it online.

A terrific song.......

My wife has done some off-Broadway in her day, and she does a version of that song that will absolutely blow your socks off.

Believe me, I'd love to....If I can ever get it set up.!!

FWIW, I'm what some would call a musical 'snob'. Started playing a trumpet when I was 5 and was dialed into what folks call "Classical Music" at that young age. Was blessed with perfect pitch but cursed with not enough talent to play at the level that I wanted to.

My wife Annie set aside her stage aspirations as she wanted more than anything else to have children.

I had three boys when we married....and we had a daughter (Nikki, now 17) who is everything any parent could ever want in their child.

Annie is a bit rusty, but still has a great set of pipes, and I've watched her floor numbers of my friends over the years who didn't know that she performed when she would step up on stage at a club and reel a few off numbers.

There used to be a few piano bars in Boston where you could do that (they've now gone the way of the carrier pigeon). The pianists were very particular whom they would let up on stage and sing with them. She was alway welcome there, and well known amongst those who frequented them.

The problem with doing a You Tube is trying to get the back-up musicians so that she could do a good representative set.

But, y'know what? I'd never thought of it but you've spurred me on, and when she gets home in a bit, I'm going to ask her what she thinks of the idea.

I thank you for nudging me..........

This sounds like a really fun thing! A video of this would be a great thing for your kids to have as a memory keepsake too. I imagine you could look back at this a thousand times in great fondness as the years go by.

You should get her while she's still good!

You are welcome. I will be curious to know what her reaction is and if this progresses it to something. I will keep my fingers crossed.

I was hunting around at CD Universe for music and came across another favorite band of mine with a song that was semi-popular BITD.

The Damned - Alone Again Or

It's a cover of the Love song, but I like the Damned version better, especially the Spanish-style trumpet. The Damned came out as a punk band in the late 70's, they were even managed by Malcolm MacLaren for a spell, but changed to a goth-type band in the 80's. I keep waiting for a all-encompassing box from them, but haven't found one yet.

I have always loved Ella's version, but my favorite is by Susannah McCorkle whose version is all the more poignant given the circumstances of her death about six years ago.
