I'm sure it will be less than 6 months before congress realizes that they need to pass legislation contrary to the UIEGA. If it hasn't already happened, it will happen in a few weeks. I don't know how slow the process is and how much debate there will be as to whether there is a different approach that should be taken than the Frank and Wexler bills. Of course, there is always a chance that they will try to push this off until after the 2008 election, but I didn't get this impression. These sanctions are serious. Also, they wouldn't mind getting some tax revenue that can be used to fund other bills. Barry [/ QUOTE ] Barry, I'm the person who put this video up ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2HO7AQrsicM ), which you also put on your website (for which I'd like to thank you). I'd like to urge you to have a listen to these two lectures from the Mises Institute, to understand the long history behind state regulation and their real purposes: http://mises.org/multimedia/mp3/DiLo...iLorenzo-6.mp3 http://mises.org/multimedia/mp3/DiLo...iLorenzo-7.mp3 (from http://mises.org/media.aspx?action=showname&ID=425 ) Regards, Niels |

Being that the internet is so accessible and people lack control gambling online more so than in B&M and funding would be so easy to do, it wouldn't surprise me if part of the regulations would be to severely limit the stakes at which people can gamble for online. |

Re: BarryG - Online Poker should be legal in 6 months
I hope it's not going to be a step back for those unfortunate enough to be living in those 11 states. People living there might actually go from having access to less than perfect online poker world, to having no access at all, if all poker sites decide to go straight.

Re: BarryG - Online Poker should be legal in 6 months
I also agree about people being careful about what they wish for. There are 1001 ways the gov't can make poker unprofitable while regulating it, so it might be a Pyrrhic victory.
