Re: Live Updates of the Laak vs Computer Match HERE
[ QUOTE ]
OK, finally read all the thread. Sounds like Phil's half got pretty bloodbathed - the human team losing by $70 is so close its shocking. Give us another few thousand hands soon please - sounds like the bots can play HU limit cash as well as a pretty high stakes grinder... [/ QUOTE ] Part II is going on now, and 1000 more hands tomorrow. I'm encouraged on the human side that they seemed to have done better on the second half of the match. Hopefully Phil was bluffing too much at first or something, since the theme seems to be that it never folds... |

What's a 5% edge mean? Since most decisions are no brainers (find a raise with top pair, fold if you miss the flop), it sounds like a lot. [/ QUOTE ] It could be tough to see the game was 52.5% vs. 47.5%, that's a 5% edge, but he must have seen some weak plays and calculated the overall effect of them being that 5%. If that computer did not adjust (like the one now doesn't) then it's a wonder if he did not have at least a 5% edge until optimal strategy really can't be beaten; e.g. call always or never or anything in-between and the result will be the same, and if one is not playing optimally then one is losing, it just being a matter of how much one is losing, and that's why good players play optimally and can't be beaten as long as they mix it up at least with draws and pairs. Though when I know a person is not too much out of line it's easy to save money against him, but if it would be an optimal computer seeing that, it couldn't do it - but it still doesn't lose if optimal strategy doesn't lose -- that leads to an another point and that is its inability to win; it just being able to not to lose other than the amount of its "bugs." |

[/ QUOTE ] Well it says Polaris called a river bet in a smallish pot with Queen high. Queen High! Ellix Powers and Jim McManus would be proud. |

Apparently Phil is getting hit with the deck. It should be interesting to see Ali's results playing the worse cards

According to the picture captions, the updates were being done by one of the University of Alberta Group, so if his career in card reporting doesn't work out, at least he'll have an advanced degree in Computer Science to fall back on. [/ QUOTE ] Not to mention cleaning up online with his super good heads up poker bot. |
