Re: Thoughts on Changing my Name?
Ariel --
I don't see any problem with changing your name. Most people telling you what a nice name you have seem to be ignoring the substance of the issue. Most people pointing out annoyances seem to be underestimating your present ones. As for the issue of your friends -- plenty of people are differently named to different people. In my Nth-hand experience it seems to be somewhere from no inconvenience to a minor/moderate one, depending. I think Noah would be a good name for you. --Nate |

Foxwoods Fiend,
Does it bother you to give a different name to a cashier/restaurant hostess, etc.? -McGee |

Re: Thoughts on Changing my Name?
On the sidetrack, people always ask me what my name (Dov) is short for (it's short for nothing - that's the whole name) and they ask me what type of name it is (Hebrew) and if it means anything (Bear). That part's kinda fun and I don't mind it since it is broadening people's experience and gives you something to talk about and for them to remember you by. But I don't like it when everyone butchers the pronunciation and can't get it right over the phone. So I seriously go with "Batman" at restaurants and "Joe" with strangers that I will never see again.

Re: Thoughts on Changing my Name?
I have a unique name that runs into similar problems with people over the phone and taking reservations. My name is Griffin. Invariably there will be take out orders for christian, or kristin but these are often easily cleared up. I have a feeling you want to change your name for different reasons than just minor inconveniences like this. I really like my name, and these minor incoveniences would never make me want to change it. So my question for you is, what are the real reasons you want to change your name?
If you have some good reasons, which I think you probably do. I would suggest picking a name and just introducing yourself to new people with this name. See how it goes before you do anything legally. |
