Re: help people avoid bad movies (and watch good ones)
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is the best movie on this list IMO...if u like the twisty plot crime noir genre then this film is definitely for you...plus Downey Jr and Kilmer are great together
The Weather Man is very good also. Its a interesting, amusing character that is very well acted by Nicholas Cage. I have really started to like him more and more after adaptation and this movie. The Da Vinci Code is laughably bad and I am saying this as someone who enjoyed the book... Broken Flowers takes to the extreme the apathy of Bill Murray from Lost in Translation, and in doing so goes too far IMO. Its too slow, although there are some really great scenes in the movie...if you like Bill Murray enough, its watchable Capote is probably the second best film on this list...as most know Philip Seymour Hoffman is brilliant...his oscar was completely deserved...it should make you want to go read "In Cold Blood" if u havent already... |

Re: help people avoid bad movies (and watch good ones)
Waiting - Junior high humor, but I lol'd quite a bit.
4 Brothers - Nothing special. Weatherman - i watched it when it came out, and I liked it. I thought Cage did a decent job, and I'm a fan of dry humor. One movie that should be avoided at all costs is Even Money. The movie boasts a cast with a lot of recognizable names in Whitaker, Liotta, Grammer, and Devito. However, the film is complete garbage. |

Re: help people avoid bad movies (and watch good ones)
I'd disagree with Lord of War, Weatherman and Capote...
However, what I most look for in a movie is acting, and then script...I guess if one doesn't appreciate Cage's acting, the first two would be lacking by my standards, but I think he's a good actor. Script was good in Weather Man, as was the acting by Michael Cage. Capote, great acting, but a little slow I thought. Avoid: smokin aces - I think that's what its called. I mainly wanted to see it because Jason Bateman was in it, although hardly, not that I knew that. But yeah, terrible, with too many plot holes to count. |

"Slither" is another movie that could easily have made this list, and is definitely worth checking out.

Slither? Really? Everyone I watched it with thought it was terrible. Based on the trailer, i didn't even want to see it, but we were bored and it was free.

Brokeback and Squid/Whale are both exceptional movies.

grandma's boy - absolutely terrible acting. has some decent moments of unintentional comedy. the best part is either the total mail-in performance from the lead actor, or the strange computer game programmer character.

econ,
I haven't seen any of those yet. ZJ has a thread on Once in this forum. A number of people I know have seen Waitress and all said it's really good. |

Re: help people avoid bad movies (and watch good ones)
econ,
Both Waitress and Once are phenomenal. Waitress is quirky and humorous. Once is all about the beautiful music. Both are essentially chick flicks. Those are the two I've seen and I feel both are strong 5/5 movies. PT |
