While it would be nice for them to spread the wealth, $5/down isn't entirely unreasonable. It comes out to about $30k/year (and if you meant they both threw him a red it would be $50k/yr). Tons of people in this country bust their asses day in and day out for less money than this. No way someone pitching cards across a table should make more than $50k/yr.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I love when people complain about somebody making a lot of money for doing a certain job. It's not like poker dealers are making their money from your tax dollars. It's none of your business how much they make, and if you consider it unfair that some of them make over 50k a year for just pitching cards, you should get a job as a dealer so you can get in on some of that easy money.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Perhaps you should explain the same to the guy who was laughing his ass off that a high stakes player tipped a dealer a redbird. I assume you are a dealer since you're so pissed off at my opinion. BTW, I don't give a [censored] if a good dealer makes $100k/yr -- good for him. My only point is that someone who TIPS a redbird shouldn't be bashed for doing so.

$5 per down is $10 per hour and I don't have any idea how that makes 50 K per year, unless you work 5,000 hours. The whole LHAO is the fact that our friend moved out to Vegas to make big money dealing and he is stuck dealing to [censored] for just over $10 per hour. Our friend is a damn good dealer so I assume he made $20-30 per hour in the box dealing here in Southern Indiana.

They would request that our friend deal their game and then stiff him and if you don't think that is funny, you and I will probably continue to disagree.

Linds posted a response to the chatter about her blog entry in the most recent blog. Excerpted portion is the only mention of the comments:

So let’s fast forward to comments I received on my last post. The comments I received are all about tipping. My post was not about tipping, even though tipping is why I go to work. I write about the whole picture and tipping is part of the picture. And this is not a public forum. This is my blog, if you don’t like what you read here, please take your delicate little eyes and go read somewhere else.

Brian posted in BBV he tipped every dealer $5 every half hour and she was the last dealer that he must of forgot to tip her.

Who could have guessed a tipping thread would cause such a fuss?

"I don't tip because society says I have to. All right, if someone deserves a tip, if they really put forth an effort, I'll give them something a little something extra. But this tipping automatically, it's for the birds. As far as I'm concerned, they're just doing their job."

[/ QUOTE ]

I am guessing you don't frequent too many establishments. If you do, I can guarantee you that they know who you are and that, more often than not, you are getting 'something extra' with your order.

They gave him $5/down. How is that stiffing?

As for the math...

$5 per down is $10/hr + base wage of $5/hr = $15/hr * 2000 hr = $30k/yr

$10 per down (if both gave a red) is $20/hr + $5/hr = $25/hr * 2000 hr = $50k/yr

If they gave nothing then they suck, but that was not the impression given in your first post.

Maybe I'm not understanding this correctly, but this whole situation seems weird to me. Now, let me preface this with saying that I am not a dealer nor do I live in Vegas, so maybe I don't have the same understanding as some of you who are involved with these type of situations day in and day out.

[/ QUOTE ]

I have a friend that deals in Vegas and he never mentioned it but a mutual friend that deals here locally, told me while LHAO, "X, is out there dealing $1,000-2,000 limit holdem and they tipped him $5 for his down."

WhileI find it unimaginable to be playing that high and stiffing the dealers, I am confident it happens on a regular basis.

In the casino industry you don't talk bad your customers, especially the high rollers. If you can't say something nice, you are much better off, not speaking about high rollers.

I have no problem with dealers making $50K/year. You do realize that there are many MORE people in this country who work far less than the average poker dealer who make exponentially more?

LOL @ what someone should make.

WTF are you, a communist?

Sammy is willing to lay Brian 105k to win 100k flipping cards which is clearly -EV, but he can't tip a dealer $5 or more an hour.
What a douche.
Tipping should be considered an operating expense of playing live poker just like spending gas to get to the venue or paying a higher rake then online. It should simply be factored into your expenses.

If you're referring to how much the dealer makes, then your math sucks. No dealer deals 2 downs /hour for an entire day. Most might be lucky to deal 5 hours out of 8 hours in a day. 10 downs, then you have to add dead spreads, forced eo's, double breaks, tourneys, ect..

But as usual, a "tipping" thread is resulting to yet another soapbox arena for the pro/non tippers.
