If you want to make money at SSNL it helps if you aren't an idiot CALLING STATION with TOP PAIR.

I proved this concept to my own satisfaction tonight.

not saying the kid didn't deserve it, but in general, police in america are given way to much power for the amount of intelligence they must have and training they receive.

I'm pretty sure all Berkeley city cops have college degrees, which is more than most of the little [censored] they're arresting for exactly this sort of behavior have. If your civil disobedience involves your right to sit in any available seat on a public bus, then I'm behind you, hopefully representing Average Joe Sorryman American, and what you did worked. If it's about your right to get attention, then [censored] off. So I'm supposed to believe he's standing up for the rights of disenfranchised African-American Ohio voters? From the the <5 minutes I've seen of this guy, he's at best one of those and probably none. Most likely explanation = attention whore.

It pisses me off when someone wants to exercise their right to participate in one part of our social-political process but then sees no reason why he should be subject to any of the rest of the legislative/judicial/criminal aspect, at his whim. If some random dude stole his wallet, I'll wager any amount he would want the cops to use a taser to stop him if the guy didn't stop by himself. Sure, taser-boy gets to [censored] the hot hippie chick, but at least I can take consolation in the fact that the "hot" hippie chicks are loosely defines as those who shave their legs.

Putting the cops on leave is probably standard procedure when something they do makes national news, same as when there's a use of lethal force, the involved officers are usually put on paid leave until any investigation is complete. That's why the book exists. So they can do things by it.

slim, berkley cops have college degrees? damn. most cops, and by cop i mean guy on the beat, not a detective doing investigations, have a high school education or diploma in Iowa. i think the solution in your town is to call eric cartman, he seems to deal with hippies well.

pineapple, why would complaining about a largely uneducated group in power make me want to go to a place where the problem is even worse?

Overall, the risk reward ratio of being a public servant anywhere in the world is very [censored]. With no real skills, and no risk to our bodies, a lot people here make more than policemen, firemen, and army-dude-men make, and there is a chance they could DIE doing their job. As much as we complain about running bad being tough, it's not going to kill us. Our best and brightest simply do not go into law enforcement and it's fairly obvious why.

Slim,

Did you actually repeat that idiotic claim of inciting a riot that the cops made up because they couldn't think of anything else?

velocity,

a lot of very bright minds enter local law enforcement with the intent on moving to federal law enforcement (FBI) as well as intelligence work.
