legend,

he's been swinging the bat much better for a little over a week now. made some changes to his stance, he's more upright and a little more open.

[/ QUOTE ]

You're right, and I have seen that change. But we always seem to notice these things *after* the supposed resurgence has taken place.

i'm not really sure how else we are supposed to notice that, since as soon as he made the change, he started hitting much better. someone on SoSH posted about it right when it happened, probably a club source or someone who was at the ballpark early or something. crisp took extra BP with magadan and made the adjustments.

That said, I like Coco, and it's very very possible that even his last year and a half at the plate can be chalked up to variance/transition/pressure ,

You forgot the most important one. Injury. He got off to a great start last year and then broke something in his wrist sliding into third. I seemed to recall reading that as late as early spring training this year it was still bothering him.

Then, playing for the Sox, after putting up lousy numbers last year, the pressure thing kicks in. We are the best fans in the World and also the worst.

it was a finger on his left hand, and yes, word around ST was that it wasn't 100%.

But saying "what's gotten into him" lately, like it's some sort of personal transformation, is idiotic.

Not to speak for owl or anything, but I think you're reading a little too much into his comment.

Beckett with a double to deep left?

How about this. Beckett as a DH on his off days. Papi to first. Youk to second, Pedroia to short. Lugo to the waivers.

I should be GM or manager of the Sox.

[/ QUOTE ]

At least Beckett as RH pitch hitter. Last year's batting stats: .429 BA, .429 OBP, .857 SLG

If anyone is interested in a sabermetric tutorial, it's going on in the last two pages of the Chicago Cubs thread.

DO THIS.

Anybody seen Beckett run? I'd hate to lose Lugo's basestealing abilities (for the 1 or 2 games a week he reaches base)

Last night the other players were fanning Beckett with towels after his excursion on the base paths. My wife turns to me says "look, they're fanning Beckett, is it that hot?"

I laughed and tried to explain to her that it was just one of those ball busting things they do in baseball.

That was an ugly at-bat for Ortiz.

The Sox hitters look like they're so confused at how terrible Carlyle is. Ortiz struck out on a horrendous breaking ball that I think fooled Papi because of how bad it was.

Longest win streak of the season this year has been 5 games for the MLB's best. I am anticipating a run of 7-8 real soon.
