I like mine well done but still pink in the middle. [/ QUOTE ] waitstaff must hate you. this doesn't mean anything. just say medium-well. "well done but pink in the middle" is like asking for "medium but gray throughout." |

So heartened by the results of this poll
It seems like whenever I order a steak medium-well, the entire table gasps, and everyone sitting with me and the waitress look at me like I have a death wish Do I just have weird friends? Edit: I meant medium-rare, I'm retarded |

[/ QUOTE ] While it's not my desired doneness, a medium well steak is still going to be delicious when prepared properly. I shake my head at well done though. |

Medium Rare/Rare. Also, I really enjoy eating hamburgers pretty rare. Soooooooooooooo much better than a typical hamburger that way. [/ QUOTE ] I like my burgers medium rare, but I don't trust any restaurants. I ask for medium or medium well at most restaurants. |

[ QUOTE ] I have never had steak that was not well done. It just does not seem appealing to me, but maybe one day I'll try medium well. [/ QUOTE ] just order a hamburger if you're gonna do that [/ QUOTE ] Actually, I like burgers fairly rare too but you need to be at a good restaurant that ensures that the center reaches a high enough temperature so that it's safe. |

[/ QUOTE ] A favorite restaurant of mine makes an open-faced, shaved prime rib sandwich. Rarer than rare is perfect for that thing. *drools* |

[/ QUOTE ] Also need to trust the restaurant that the beef was ground properly. If the hamburger was improperly handled, their grinding machine is contaminated, etc...and it can be cooked to medium well, and you'll get sick. |

It all depends on the cut. Tenderloin and Rib Eye should be made on the rare side as they are tender without needing to cook for a long time. While tougher cuts should be made well done as they are virtually inedible when they are undercooked.
