Re: Ask an Iraq war Vet
interesting thread; thanks. more pics please!
What was your contact with the locals like (e.g. interpreters etc)? Did you get on with them, or was it very uneasy? Were there Iraqi's sympathetic to the West, or was the vast majority of locals very anti-occupation? How would you describe day-to-day life in post-Saddam Iraq? E.g. on TV we always see the worst of it, the bombings, the fighting etc. Is it really that bad, or are people actually able to get on with living a relatively normal life? Could you expand on any ideas for a responsible exit-strategy? The obvious problems is a combination of the fractured religious/political scene and easily accessible arms, leading to a pattern of escalating sectarian violence. In retrospect, it is very easy to see that the "iron-fist" of Saddam was keeping these elements in check. What is difficult to see, is how we could achieve some degree of law & order? I'm personally very pessimistic about the whole mess.... |

[ QUOTE ] Op, Good to see another vet on here. All, I would never start a thread like this because I was afraid it would draw out the retards here. So far that hasn't happened. Mad props to 2+2 in general. [/ QUOTE ] Define 'retard.' [/ QUOTE ] lol. this thread could get *really* good. (which is not to say it isn't good already.) |
