Eastwood hired himself for that one. Doesn't count.

Well now you are just splitting hairs.
However, that seems to be the only truly romantic lead he has done, so you may have something there.

I think most of the suggestions are just about actors who people dislike, when we're really supposed to be talking about "inexplicable" leading men.

And is anyone really more inexplicable than Woody Allen, for that role?

I thought about him earlier and forgot to post. I am glad you posted it Wynton. He seems to fit the bill perfectly.

Yeah, except that he's the lead in comedies(though I haven't seen all his pictures), and just a supporting actor in the dramas, who anyway usually is there for comedy relief.

Yeah, but how do you feel about Clint Eastwood or John Wayne as the lead in a romantic comedy?

[/ QUOTE ]

Wayne was great in the Quiet Man and I prefer it to many of his westerns/war movies. Not really a romantic comedy in the sense of a Tom Hanks/Meg Ryan flick it was quasi romantic and comic and different from his cowboys and soldiers. Eastwood never really did much outside of genre? Any which way but Loose and Any which way You Can are the only true comedies I can recall?

I mean, you wouldn't cast William H. Macy (as good as he is) as the lead in Top Gun, would you?

[/ QUOTE ]

No? But you wouldn't cast Cruise as the lead in Fargo, Door to Door or the Cooler either. Different types get different roles. But I do understand what you are going for here.
