For a long time Requiem for a dream was the saddest movie I have seen but then I watched a finnish movie called Frozen Land which is even more depressing. At the beginnig of the movie an old teacher is displaced by a younger one which causes a chain reaction of accidental occurrences that destroys the life of a lot of people.

It's not the saddest movie ever, but The Godfather II is very sad. Watching all of Michael's relationships fall apart - his wife, Kay, and especially with Fredo. Seeing his mother die and Fredo getting taken to the boat at the end.

IMHO, very sad.

Agreed, completely, with Saving Private Ryan.

I thought 'Life Is Beautiful' actually was inspirational.

Life is Beautiful is sad to me for many reasons. That doesn't mean that it doesn't inspire other feelings/emotions as well.

The Power of One - definitely inspirational when you consider that the guy keeps going in his efforts to stay open minded and do the right thing despite everything that happens to him. Events in white peeing his bed issues, death of pet chicken while he is being strung up by his afrikaaner classmates, both his parents are dead by this point, his boxing trainer getting murdered during the uniting of the tribes, his afrikaans fiancee being killed during a raid when trying to teach the blacks in the townships engilsh I'm pretty sure I'd give up, but he doesn't and the ending is one of hope, but it's still sad.

Watched it before having kids, and it made me cry. Watched it after having kids, and it inspired me to cry harder!
