Re: Post your favorite live tells here
I almost fell out of my chair when I flopped quad 8s at the Wynn last summer. Well, actually it was probably just a noticable twitch, but I felt like I may as well have taken a Sharpie and written "I HAVE QUADS" on my forehead.
Fortunately for me, the guy who hit jacks full on the turn didn't notice. |

[ QUOTE ] Even though I've played live countless times I always shake for my first hand that I'm going to win... Then I shake when I drag in my first few pots, and then after that I don't shake. [/ QUOTE ] yeah, can't seem to control this [/ QUOTE ] I have this problem too, even when I play online for the first few hands. And especially if I'm playing live somewhere I've never played before. |

[/ QUOTE ] I do that too, I just can't help myself. The worst was a few weeks ago when I play NL at the casino for the first time I bought a rack of white out of habit. I looked like the biggest jackass trying to count out raises of 15 chips with my hands shaking for the first few hands. My favourite most reliable tell has always been the look away with disinterest with a big hand. I saved a ton of money last night laying down pretty strong hands. |

Tonight's Canterbury 15/30 session got me thinking about some of the hilarious tells that one can experience while playing live poker. I have many that I enjoy, but for the purposes of this thread I will share one that I saw several times tonight from the same jackass. It is the "I-am-trying-to-pass-a-kindey-stone" face as they 4bet the river with the stone nuts. What's one of yours? [/ QUOTE ] hey man I think I might know who you are talking about. I've been at the 15/30 the past couple nights |

Re: Post your favorite live tells here
First of all GREAT POST. No one's mentioned breathing yet. Take a moment to study your opponent. Don't be overly obvious when doing so, but study their chest and upper shoulders to see if they're breathing hard. In earlier stages of the hand, I've found it represents strength. Later stages of the hand it does not appear to be as reliable as I've noticed some will breath hard when bluffing on the river hoping for a fold. (I only play N/L so this may not be as reliable for the limit players.)

Re: Post your favorite live tells here
I know live tells are important but what portion of you feel they are highly overrated?
They aren't player general and I feel it's much easier to detect strengh/weakness by analyzing strictly betting structure and the nature of the community cards. |

Jim Carey hip thrusts
my fav is when they stand up and go HOOF! HOOF! HOOF! and start doing Jim Carey hip thrusts when the river card hits.

[/ QUOTE ] Right, then add tells to further narrow villain's range (after you've taken into account all of the other factors). So, for example, you are holding AK when the river card pairs the board and an Ace hit on the flop (exclude flushes and straights as possibilities). Villain raises you, giving the "weak means strong" tell (for example, gently pushes chips into the pot). Still think AQ is in the villain's range? Because, of course, tells won't define exactly what hand is out there, just clip off the upper or lower portions of the range if reliable. Without a tell, you decide call/raise/fold by the numbers based on a range with AQ, and with the tell you make the same decision without AQ. |
