[ QUOTE ] jman, have you played any live tournies. ive found that when im having that conversation and the person isnt quite getting it, it helps a lot to mention that you were just in the bahamas or wherever playing in a WPT event. [/ QUOTE ] I guess I could do that, yeah. I suppose that online guys look down on live tourney pros, but regular folk don't. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, I find regular people think being a live tournament player is like the coolest thing on Earth. Like, nobody thinks much that I play online when I tell them, but as soon as they hear about the WSOP thing they're like "oh holy [censored] that's for real blah blah blah". |

Make a WPT/WSOP TV table and win over 250k, then you'll get publicity in tv/radio/newspaper, after that through word of mouth everyone knows you. Before I made tv table I had the same problem and was treated like a degenerate who gambled for a living and was going to live a horrible problem riddled life, now I'm treated like a celebrity. Problem solved.

Just because you make a lot of money does not mean you're not a bum.

Re: Beat: People think I\'m a Bum. BBV, help me Brag?
I'm not exactly a professional poker player, but I make my living from poker-related activities ... so I guess my situation is a little different but also similar. I finished college.
But that being said, I'm "taking time off" from law school. In all honesty, I don't know whether I'm going back. I don't have to decide until December (I could also put it off longer), but I think a lot of it will depend on the legal issues and how things look like they'll pan out. I can't stick with a failing market (by that I mean the advertising budgets of the major sites in the US) that is facing so much negative gov't attention forever. I'd love to stay in the poker world if possible though. To bring this back on point with the thread, I'm in a weird situation. A lot of people are like "WTF not in school anymore?" and I try to fill them in on what I do. I think people understand my business pretty well, so most people don't look at me like I'm a bum. Some people don't really get it though -- that's usually when I break out a brag or two. I don't like leaving people with the impression that I'm struggling when I'm not. |

most of my friends are more than willing to jump in and brag for me, even though i don't really tell them specifics either, and it's much more believable coming from someone else i think
