how about that today? Chavez/Thomas/Bradley back to back to back on three pitches. Also Swisher is tearing it up. Go A's!

Yeah, that was refreshing after a terrible series against Minnesota.

Much needed win. [/ QUOTE ] Zito is garbage. When are people going to realize that he can't beat patient hitters because his stupid curveball doesn't fool anyone anymore (he NEVER throws it for a strike)? Teams like the Yankees totally smash him because they just force him to throw his second-rate fastball, and until 2006, he didn't even have a two-seam fastball to help him get GIDP's. That said, the Twins are a deceptively good team. Santana + Liriano + Nathan is a tough combination to beat in any given game, and when Liriano moves to the rotation, the Twins will have two legitimate aces, one of whom is the best pitcher in baseball (and a lefty to boot). I still like the A's chances, of course. |

Yeah, Liriano is great. Wrong thread though. Your right that when Zito can't throw the curve for a strike he's garbage. When he first came up, it was his strikeout pitch and just dominated lefties because he could always throw it for a strike. Now he's just so wildly inconsistent and nibbles around the zone all the time. I still believe he'll get himself figured out again, but he's not gonna be winning any more cy youngs.

I've been down on Zito for a while now, and everyone keeps telling me he's better than I think he is. I'm really hoping they can work out a deal for him soon, because I'm sure his market value is a lot higher than his real value.

I figured they would trade him in the offseason. Hmm. Isn't Durazo floating around now that the Rangers released him? Wait, they picked him back up again. I was hoping Beane could snag him back. |

Re: ***Official A\'s will win the WS in 2006 Thread***
New and AD - Zito was money in the second half of the season last year. If not for suck run support he could have easily won 20 games. Sure he stunk it up in two games this year. Give the guy a break. It's a small sample size.
The fact is, Zito's trade value will always be very high because he never gets injured and he has the ability to be a lights out pitcher for long stretches in a season. |

Re: ***Official A\'s will win the WS in 2006 Thread***
Boris- I love Zito, but that doesn't mean he's perfect. He added a pitch during last season because he wasn't spotting his curve as well as he used to. The A's aren't going to trade him because no contending team in need of pitching has any extra pieces that could help the A's right now, and Zito is obviously better than Saarloos or Halsey or whoever else would be in line to be the 5th starter.
I expect Zito to have a similar season compared to last year's. |
