As an aside I think it's funny how guys are willing to consistantly pay for dates so that they can get laid, but the vast majority of guys are very hesitant to pay for a hooker. The flip is also true that women would not want a guy to pay them for sex, but will put out if the guy buys them dinner and drinks.

I like to pay for the first 3 days at least. Hopefully she has offerend sometime in there. I basically always assume i'm paying, but will accept if she offers (which hopefully she does). Once we are "together" she needs to step it up a bit. At least 25% of the time. My current g/f and I make almost exactly the same income and I probably pick up the check around 60% of the time.

you guys should feel lucky that you even go on dates!! i can't find one to save my life!!! literally! oh and usually if the girl offers to pay on the first date, i ship the check right to her. if she doesn't offer, i ask her how fast she can run and then eye the exit suspiciously.

I've always found it pretty weird that girls will claim to be "feminists" and yet they will still expect men to pay for everything. It's like, they want everything that comes with equality of the sexes, but don't want to give up the perks of being a woman (having men pay for stuff). They want to have their cake and eat it too.
That said, I usually pay for everything on the first few dates. In a relationship where the man pays for everything, I think the man secretly resents his girlfriend for it. It's a hard subject to broach, so most men just accept the fact that their girlfriends are socially sanctioned prostitutes.

Part generation gap, part having a different definition as to what comprises a "date" and part what another poster mentioned, I have a great deal more disposable income than any girl I ever dated except perhaps one. I now better understand why many men feel the way they do about their date paying ocassionally. Still I would never expect them to pay but can see the value in an offer to pay from them. Thanks to everyone in this thread for offering me a new perspective which I have never before even considered. Jimbo
