What are some songs that you guys know that are just really really sad? My nomination is Neil Young - Philadelphia. [/ QUOTE ] Since no one else gave you any love for this song, I thought I'd tell you I agree. Do you know if he wrote that just for the movie? I would also suggest Stand Inside Your Love by the Smashing Pumpkins. |

"Cat's in the Cradle" or whatever it's called, by Harry Chapin always gets me. And it's not because it parallels my relationship with my father or anything like that.

I've really got to stop listening to all these songs or I'm going to slit my wrists.
Tom Waits - Christmas Card from a Hooker in Minneapolis The Smiths - Girlfriend in a Coma Girlfriend in a coma, I know I know - it's serious there were times when I could have 'strangled' her (but, you know, I would hate anything to happen to her) WOULD YOU PLEASE LET ME SEE HER! Do you really think she'll pull through? Let me whisper my last goodbyes |

Black Sabbath - Changes [/ QUOTE ] It is sad to listen to, but I don't think that has much to do with the content of the song. What a way to mar what could otherwise have been their finest album. |

Some songs I find sad, but also like quite a bit:
Exit Music (For A Film) - Radiohead I'll Follow You Into The Dark - Death Cab For Cutie (lovely song, but whenever I'm actually paying attention to it, man.) The Chalet Line - Belle and Sebastian She's Leaving Home - The Beatles Casimir Pulaski Day - Sufjan Stevens |

[ QUOTE ] Best: "Tears in Heaven"-- Eric Clapton [/ QUOTE ] This is the right answer, I believe it is about his dead son. [/ QUOTE ] This may be a right answer for sadness quantity, but it is a horrible song and Clapton at his emo-worst. |

Danny Boy. And "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" by Meatloaf, not even because I think it's super sad, but because it took me like, 10 years to realize that the end of the song was the guy wanting to die to escape the girl. So that's kinda sad, but every time I hear it, it reminds me of how dumb I am, which is sad too.
