Re: who\'s a better guitarist?
Forget Jeff Beck's early stuff. The stuff he's doing today is mind-blowing.

Re: who\'s a better guitarist?
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Another great player not really mentioned is Steve Morse. He plays instrumental music, but it's tasteful, unlike Satriani's music, which is for teenagers learning the guitar who love Dream Theatre and other god awful music. I mention this band because I saw someone put up John Petrucci and that just made me chuckle a bit. When I think of torture, I think of having to sit at a Dream Theatre concert. That has to be the worst music I've ever heard. [/ QUOTE ] First off, great to see Steve Morse mentioned. He definitely does need to be included in any greatest guitarist discussion. I'm a bit surprised to see you rip on Dream Theater like that in the same paragraph, though, because you otherwise seem to have great taste . Out of curiousity, what is it that makes you hate them enough to call them the worst music you've ever heard? [/ QUOTE ] I think I just can't help but to rip on Dream Theatre, because it really is some of the worst music I've ever heard. I could go on for ages about how much I despise this kind of music. The silly "technical wizardry" of the guitarist and keyboard player, the horrible singer, lackluster songwriting. There is just everything wrong with this band. I've never hated a band this much since I hated Pavement back in college. A few years ago I was studying with Alex Skolnick (formerly of Testament) and I was going to see one of his gigs down in the village. Another student of his that I was friendly with offered to drive Alex to the gig. He told me that on the way to the gig, he popped in a Dream Theatre CD because he wanted to see what Alex thought of his favorite band. When he told me this part, I knew that he had made a bad mistake. Of course, Skolnick asked him, "What on earth is this?" and "Please turn it off!" My friend was a bit embarassed, as he should be because anyone with any taste in music does not like Dream Theatre and that's my humble opinion. As for Jeff Beck's new stuff, I can respect it. It's creative and different. But whoever says to forget about the older stuff is not playing with a full deck. |

If you had any taste in music or knew ANYTHING about music, you would understand that all music is percieved differently by different people and everything has its own merits. Which also applies to this thread, there is no "best ever" guitarist. Its all subject to peoples individule perception of each guitarist. Your too musicly ignorant too understand Dream Theater, which is fair enough if your not seriously into music. But DONT critisize something you know ABSOLUTLY NOTHING about. thank you. |
