Re: best pound for pound nation of poker players in the world?
[ QUOTE ]
For those of you arguing that Americans are not the worst poker players on average, I challenge you to go to a live casino in Los Angeles and watch some of the play at anything below very high stakes. [/ QUOTE ] Go to any casino in the world and you'll see horrible players. The US doesn't have a monopoly on bad players. I suspect there isn't really one better poker nation. At least nothing that isn't caused by randomness. Poker isn't really like other sports (I don't really consider Poker a 'Sport', but whatever) because there's no official training programs. Canada for instance produces better hockey players then most (I'd say all ) other countries because it invests in a world class development program. I suppose you could maybe argue that whatever country has the most access to low and medium stakes poker games has the best poker players, but with online poker thats not as big of a deal anymore. |

There really is very little doubt that the US contains a higher percentage of winning players than any other country in the world. [/ QUOTE ] This made me laugh so hard that I almost choke. |

British players are the best as they don't have to pay any tax on their winnings. All the rest of us have to be X(tax percent) better than them just to achieve an equal result.

Re: best pound for pound nation of poker players in the world?
[ QUOTE ]
u all realize that sweden has 9 million inhabitants and finland has even less? u all realize what the term "per capita" means? [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, I think a few of them are having trouble with this concept. I have no idea what the correct answer is but Finland or Sweden look very plausible. And no, I'm not from either of those places. Maybe if we operationalized the question a bit better: imagine you are going to play a game against nine opponents who have been randomly picked from the streets of a particular country, and each given a bankroll to play with. Your opponents may or may not know anything about poker. Which country would you be most happy to hear you'd got? Which country would you be least happy to hear you'd got? I think the answer to the second question is one way of defining the toughest country at poker. What if we switch it so that people have not been randomly selected from the street, but from a group who self-identify as poker players? To be honest, I think this would make Sweden / Finland look even stronger. The American group of "poker players" is very large, but includes an awful lot of donks. Whereas *of those who player poker* in Sweden/Finland, many are good. |

Re: best pound for pound nation of poker players in the world?
You guys ever heard of "If you could make it in America, you could make it anywhere"? We are the land of opportunities, and the country the only country that fights terrorism. We have the most educated mind in our poker players... Greenstein, Binger, that MIT blackjack guy, and a whole lot more. Our university even have gaming theory courses... UCLA, UNLV... Ever since the partypoker days, the game is 10x harder because more U.S players are jammed into playing with everyone else from the U.S. Ok I made my points.
