I have no idea if this is a popular movie, but The Legend of 1900 is great.

lesser known mob movies that people are decent:

Wannabes (really good)
10 and Wolf
Mean Streets (probably too popular for this thread)

Amen. Best teen comedy ever made.

Edit: Also, a couple of gambling movies: Hard Eight and Owning Mahoney.

The General- Brendan Gleeson(who's a dead ringer from the pics I've seen) as irish gangster Martin Cahill. Directed by John Boorman.

Chopper- Movie about Mark Brandon Read, Australian criminal.

Traffik- The original one, not the remake. It's really a mini-series, but it's really good and definitely worth seeing.

I really enjoyed Ghost Dog, a Forest Whitaker movie in which he gives a good understated performance. I had never heard of it till one of my friends pointed it out when we were randomly flipping through channels, so I don't think it's too popular.

yeah the catherine zetajones remake sucked compared to the british traffik mini-series i saw. the old one is really good especially the part where the guy stabs his drug dealer boss to death with herioine needle. cathartic.

Joyride...a college kid (Paul Walker) is driving instead of flying home in the hopes of spending time with a girl he likes (Leelee Sobieski), but ends up having to bring along his delinquent brother (Steve Zahn). Lots of well-acted bros vs. hos tension & mama's boy vs. bad boy friction. oh and did I mention that they manage to piss off an insane homicidal truck driver.

Cellular Ryan (Crhis Evans) is an irresponsible surfer dude who is reluctantly drawn into some heavy [censored] when a kidnapped woman(Kim Basinger) accidentally dials his cell number on a jerry-rigged phone. Great pacing, a mean-mugging Jason Statham as the main villain, and Jessica Biel as the girlfriend with the smoking bod.

'Screamers' - My favorite sci-fi film, despite sort of cheesy effects. Great plot. Based on a novel by Philip K. Dick.

This movie is so horrifyingly creepy. Thanks for reminding me about it, I'd forgotten how much I like it.

Along the cheesy-but-terrifying lines I'll throw Event Horizon out there.
