Third Gen RX-7's have no limiter at 155 and they top out about 168-170. It took a hell of a while to get it that fast and the thing felt like it was floating on the highway, ie. not a lot of control!

Previous to that I used to hang with a bunch of rich dudes from St. Louis who would take their parents cars out in the middle of the night. I was in a 300zx tt with one dude and we were going west on 40 towards a Denny's. A buddy who was to be an IndyCar driver later in life came flying by us in his mom's 911 twin turbo like we were standing still, he claims he was going 185. I wouldn't be surprised.

They all ended up buying crotch rockets and tearing up 40 at 150+ every night until the cops figured it out and set up roadblocks. They all split, one going between two cop cars on the highway. One guy gave himself up and got about every ticket possible and the other three got away.

Drove 145 in my Acura nsx philly to ny. Hands were sweating, and the wind was howling through the small openings b/w the targa roof and the car.

It's funny how we've almost all been up around 120+ when we were younger and these are our thoughts:

1) It was awesome
2) Man, I was dumb, if I blew a tire, I'm a goner.
3) I haven't been close to that in ___ years.

I cringe thinking that my future kid will someday get a 4 cylinder up into triple digits just to see what it's like. But, it seems like human nature for those of us with enough testicular fortitude, and willing enough to put logic aside momentarilly.

Also, I had a front tire blowout at about 65mph earlier this year and it scared the sh*t out of me. I've been super paranoid about my tires ever since. If I hear one slight nuance while driving I'll kick the tires, check them for pressure, and look for cracks or nails for like the next three days.

Blowouts suck huge balls. When it happened I was able to keep my cool and get the car centered on the shoulder, but afterwards I was really scared and greatful. The idea of what had just happened was pretty wild. Blowout at 65 is horrible, I can't imagine what it would be like at 120.
