also, my desktop is now just the background in the OP. No panels or anything (running OpenBox). Sometimes I use pypanel or the xfce4-panel.

Cool, I checked out deskview and then decided to write my own version. Mine gives you options (detailed view, list view, icons, etc) and keeps settings permanently (even after reboot). I'm wondering if I can sell it or if I should just give it away:
