Re: PS $.5/1 Pocket AA -- Is this river raise good?
[/ QUOTE ]You really think a Villan is going to limp-cap preflop with any hand containing a 3? [/ QUOTE ] I wouldn't but I also don't understand why he'd limp r/r with something like KK? I guess I can see it if nobody folds to EP raiser or everything gets r/r but really what's the point of the limp/rr aside from encouraging draws to suck out? Maybe he hit raise when he meant to hit call? I can't make sense of this. I'm wanting to put him on some sorta [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] nonsense. And yeah, the flop cap, c/c turn and then raise the river doesn't make much sense. Why are you afraid on the turn yet not the river? |

I wouldn't but I also don't understand why he'd limp r/r with something like KK? [/ QUOTE ] I agree with you that limping with KK is a bad idea, but what matters is how he thinks. Why does anybody limp re-raise? Usually: He loves his hand, has no fear, and is terrified he might only win the blinds. For most people AA and KK are the no fear hands. For some, AK is a no fear hand. What matters is his thought process, not the truth of it. Sometimes: He has a speculative hand that hates a raise and his re-raise is a tilt move. This is more likely with late position limpers. The classic limp re-raise is UTG limps at a tight full table and reraises. That is AA, book it. I think if you open limp at all you should limp re-raise some. An opponent who limp-RR with a wide range of hands (compared to the traditional AA, KK) would be tough to play against. |

Re: PS $.5/1 Pocket AA -- Is this river raise good?
I see this hand as an application of what I call the "shifting gears" problem, only in the opposite direction. Usually the person is betting/raising the flop and/or turn only to shut down on the a subsequent street when the cards have given absolutely no reason to do so. In this case you are shifting from calling down to aggression when absolutely nothing changes from turn to river. If you're scared on the turn (and you should be) there's nothing about the river to now give you confidence. Just check/call it down and see how villain plays. I think a river raise is pure spew here.

Re: PS $.5/1 Pocket AA -- Is this river raise good?
If u gonna raise, the turn is a much more logical spot. Ok so he has AK or KK. There are 3 ways for KK and 6 ways for AK. U risk 2 bets to win 1 assuming he won´t 3-bet AK. SO by this calculation it seems like u are 2:1 (6:3) favorit to win 1 bet over losing 2. This makes the raise excactly break-even. Because of the action pf and on the flop I believe KK is more likely than 1/3 and therefore that a call is the right move.
