Re: ***Official 2007-2008 MLB Offseason Thread***
You know what this reminds me of? It reminds me of when Alfonso Soriano was traded for Brad Wilkerson. SE was like "Huge win for the Rangers," and I said, "Have you lost your mind? Soriano has tools baby!" Then SE said, "Yeah, but even if Soriano is a little better than Wilkerson, the Rangers got Sledge too," and I said, "huh?"
I've created two slogans. 1. If the deal seems fair, take the guy with better tools. Neither the Soriano or Delmon Young trades seem fair to me, but you guys seem to think so, so it applies. 2. Don't trade a guy coming off of a bad year or for a guy coming off of a good year. The Rays are guilty of both to some degree here. Obviously these can't be hard and fast rules, but a huge % of the time, this will determing who gets the better end of a deal. |

WTF, the final trade was Garza/Barlett and Eduardo Morlan, not Rincon. Imo that makes the trade pretty clearly in TB's favor.

DC,
For once I support one of your posts fully. What you really need is to show a Duncan breakdown. If we could find a way to make him pitch only against Johan clones in the All-Universe team he's hit like a .380/.550/.800 line. rwperu, Again, like most poker players you seem to think doing the most EV thing in every situation is the best option. Its clear that it isn't the best option in every scenario. Back to the drawing board. |

While the Rays would much rather have Morlan, I'm sure they could trade Rincon for a player of similar value fairly easily. As far as the overall value of the trade, it doesn't affect much. |
