Re: How many people will make more than $250,000 this year playing poker?
Tell me if my math is right because I'm about to end this whole argument.
This year I made about 15k in poker part-time. I've never read a book and the only forum I visit on 2+2 is NVG. Therefore, the guys that read the books and visit the strat forums definitely make more than me and a great number of them are full-timers. 3k online 12k live games There are over 5000 players (extensive research based on cardplayer of the year standings and hendonmob rankings) that play 10x the amount I play and are better than me. Therefore 5000 making at least $150k. Of those 5000 players, at least half of them are playing higher levels than myself, which would double their hourly rate and divided by the square root of the % which their skills are better than mine means that: 2500+ make $250k/year. And this is not even factoring in tournament players. So with Jerry Yang and lil hold em thrown into the equation, 2502+ @ $250k. |

Re: How many people will make more than $250,000 this year playing pok
I voted between 1000 and 2000, but thinking about it, it may be a lot more.
A while ago there was a thread about how much players would clear a million this year and I believe I was saying under 100 or something, but on the other hand, I think the 250K-1M group is enormous. There are 2/4 NLHE HU players who already win >250K/year. Every 2K NLHE pro should be above 250K/year since that's only 10 buyins/month for them, which is easy if you are a winning player. Every 50/100 LHE pro should be above 250K as well since 1250 big bets / year isn't that much. If you play high stakes omaha you just have to run hot for a couple of sessions. Then there is the large group of live players who run hot this year, the large group of tournament players with big scores...... I think it might be above 2000 players, but it's more than 1000 for sure anyway. |

IMO a lot of the naysayers here just cant fathom people winning 250k because it's absurd to them that someone else can be winning more $ than them. It's simply outrageous how many people that I know personally will make 250k+ this year. And I pretty much stay out of the poker community and go about my own business. I dont know anything about tourney players, dont have any 2p2 friends, and dont play live. [/ QUOTE ] I think a lot of people are saying it because everyone just makes assumptions based on winning at rate which is not realisitic for 99. something percent of people, playing a number of hands which is not realistic for 99.something percent of people. Serious question, how many do you think you know who will clear 250k? Several of the skeptics here are actually people who do it but also just know well enough that there is a reason every single big datamine produces exponetially less winners of this magnitidue than everyone percieves there to be. |

Re: How many people will make more than $250,000 this year playing pok
The kind of people who make the 250k are either
a) people who run good in the 5kNL+ games b) people with redargoe'esque work ethic in 3/6 through 10/20 c) people who grind hard in the HU games, 2/4 through 5/10 d) people with a tournament score(s) obviously im in category d |
