Re: Fun w/ JTo
Raise now, Dude, and the reasons should be obvious: a card can come on the river to scare him into checking, costing you action; raising now allows him to 3-bet a set or aces up; if he folds now then he was possibly check-folding the river anyway; if the board pairs on the river and you still raise, what are you doing against a 3-bet, etc....

[/ QUOTE ] according to the OP, villain is decent but plays too many hands against a raise. Therefore, the majority of the time, she should have a bad one pair hand without a kicker. If she is decent, she shouldn't really be 3 betting anything she could have there, so I think the prospect of being able to get 4 bets in on this turn are fairly dim. 77, and AQ are not in good shape versus a turn raise here. She will probably just calldown if she has those hands, right? My main concern is whether or not she will lay down here with a hand like A8. If she will, then just call. If she won't then take it upstairs now plz. |

Raise now, Dude, and the reasons should be obvious: [/ QUOTE ] Let's look at your "obvious" reasons. a card can come on the river to scare him into checking, costing you action; Sure, and she can check-fold most of these river cards after calling my raise, which gives me 2 bets either way. raising now allows him to 3-bet a set or aces up This is legit, although hands that she can 3-bet are a very small part of her range, considering my position and that she didn't 3bet preflop. if he folds now then he was possibly check-folding the river anyway This is absurd, and you know it. if the board pairs on the river and you still raise, what are you doing against a 3-bet, The same thing I'd do if I raised the turn then got check-raised on the river: call, and the exact same number of bets go in. When she's got Ax - a large part of her range - I'm usually going to get 1, maybe 2 more bets out of her. Against random chumps who never fold, raising right away is obviously better, but against the right opponents it has merit. I'm not necessarily saying that waiting is better, but I don't think raising right away is always the obvious play. |
